A Deadly Yarn | Maggie Sefton

Mehso-so

This is odd: I like the mysteries in these and I like the premise, I just find the execution disappointing. And authors really need to stop writing badly trained dogs as an amusing plot point. It‘s not funny, it‘s not clever, it‘s irresponsible and really turns off people who are nervous of dogs. #endrant

Maybe I‘m just a Negative Nancy, but seeing this quote misquoted (mostly in tattoos) all the time drives me nuts. The more “geared towards children” productions turned it around to, “To live would be an awfully big adventure”; where in the book, Peter says, “to die...”

Both are beautiful, but I‘d love to see someone reference the correct quote for once 😓😅

TBH I hate all James Patterson books. Not sorry. It makes it very difficult to curate a good library collection on a budget when his ghost writers are cranking these out every week, and people keep requesting them! It‘s not quality. He has enough money. Let‘s all just let it go. #EndRant #Day12 #30DayBookChallenge

Quit blaming your mother for everything and holding grandma out for sainthood. Your mother had problems but the job of a child is to sit down, shut up, and sometimes realize that parents can be bad but they still love you, even if you can‘t see it. #endrant

Yes, I‘m becoming conflicted about this book.

Whiny voice: Rosario Dawson is the worst narrator ever. 😩😩😩 Why do they get celebrity narrators for #audiobooks just for publicity??? 😩😩😩 #endrant

#audiobook #audible #badnarrator

KathyWheeler I would not like whiny. I did like Clare Danes reading The Handmaid‘s Tale though, so a celebrity reader can work if they‘re chosen properly. Sounds like this one wasn‘t. 7y
britt_brooke Oh no, what a shame. I‘ll be sure to read this one in print. That would drive me bats. 7y
Megabooks @KathyWheeler I was wondering how she did with that. Glad to know it‘s good because I‘ve nearly gotten it several times! 7y

Megabooks @britt_brooke So many voices she does sound exactly they same and then the accented voices sound cheesy and amateurish. 7y
britt_brooke @Booksandcooks That‘s so annoying. 😬 7y
Bookartbookmarks I thought it might have been better to read it rather than listen because of this reason. 7y
Megabooks @Babiesandbooks You‘re definitely right on that. I‘m returning it! 7y
Titania I hate to say it, but maybe it's the writing and not Rosario. Wasn't a fan of the print version either. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Audiobook narrators are skilled actors who never depend on their looks, but entirely on their abilities to inhabit characters vocally and audibly. I think using a celebrity (or an unskilled author) is an insult to their profession. That said, I did think Clare Danes was pitch perfect as Offred. 7y
Megabooks @Titania I think it was both. When you‘re voicing your male and female characters the same, that‘s pretty much a fail for me. 7y
Megabooks @BarbaraTheBibliophage Totally agree. I think Dawson was chosen just to get people who have no idea what an audiobook should sound like to buy it. I know there are a number of voice artists that could do a better job of voicing Kenyans and Saudis and heck, even Americans. I agree that it is an insult to talented voice artists to bring in a big name hack. 😒👎🏻👎🏻 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage It‘s terrible that people who don‘t normally read by audio would have this introduction. Sounds like they‘d never try it again! 😢😢 7y
readinginthedark Oh no, that‘s too bad! I love her acting. 😕 7y
Megabooks @readinginthedark So do I, but she‘s not a good audiobook narrator. I‘ll still see her films. 7y
Megabooks @BarbaraTheBibliophage unfortunately may be true. Or they may not know it‘s bad. 7y

Forgive me for feeling feisty this morning but it seems like every romance book I have read lately where pregnancy is involved... it happens after they only get busy one time!! That is not real life at all people and is frustrating to read for anyone who has to try much harder and doesn't conceive by just touching their spouse. #endrant #resumereading

Speaking of The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids, spare me a moment for a lamentation of the monstrosity that is these new covers. Last year I saw a handful of the new covers and immediately decided to rebuild my collection of originals before they disappear entirely. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. #endrant

Is it really that much to ask that people spoiler tag their Harry Potter posts? Not everyone has read them and I am currently reading them so I'd rather not get spoiled. I've let this go on for a while and I'm going to have to start unfollowing people if it doesn't change. #endrant

BookFreakOut I don't personally post about HP but I'll warn you that's it's so mainstream that my college roommate had events of bk 6 spoiled by her media ethics textbook in 2013ish, of all things. It may prove difficult to avoid! 8y
