I wasn't far in to the tagged book before I realized I just had to do a reread of Gatsby along with it. I can't begin to count the number of times I've read Gatsby because I used to teach it, but So We Read On made it feel like a new experience. It's part literary criticism and part author study, but it's all heart because it's written by a Fitzgerald/Gatsby scholar who adores the book. I loved it! And I loved revisiting Fitzgerald's prose ❤️

Brooke_H Beautiful edition! 8mo

Did I really mean to read a book about F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s last few years and Zelda‘s hospitalization? No. But I did want to read an O‘Nan story. Somehow the author kept my interest through his writing style, even as the book began to lag. Not necessarily O‘Nan‘s fault - I mean how many times can you make it interesting that Fitzgerald fell off the wagon yet again? Would I recommend the book? Probably not. But I enjoyed O‘Nan‘s effort.

BarbaraBB I always enjoy O‘Nan too. I haven‘t read this one though 2y
Suet624 @BarbaraBB this might be a good one to skip. :)

Super informative about what Fitzgerald‘s influences were when writing Gatsby. Unfortunately, of course, the story ends the same. His last check was for $13 in royalties. The price of genius, I guess.

Panpan

It was mainly the beautiful title that made me listen to this audio book. The narrator isn't bad, but I'd say not ideal for people who are new to audio books.

The rest sadly was a pan. This story did not age well and I dislike the way the narrator describes Judy. The whole plot is nothing more than your usual love story. It's “Boy Meets Girl“ and that's it. Not my cup of tea. I was glad the story wasn't longer than an hour or so.

Another excellent #biography by Jonathan Bate! This time he serves a Keatsian inspired look at F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s life. Bate includes long excerpts from letters and primary source material that enriches this glorious history of two writers gone too soon. I can never get enough of Keats and neither could Fitzgerald! #audiobook BEAUTY+LOVE4EVER
