Hello, Kindred Spirits! The #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead is currently reading Anne‘s House of Dreams for #LMMRereads & we‘ll read The Country of the Pointed Firs by Sarah Orne Jewett for #LMMAdjacent from Feb. 2-15. After that, our schedule is TBD! I have a bunch of potential adjacent reads that I‘ve noted down as I‘ve been reading LMM‘s journals, so I thought I‘d put up a poll to see what others are interested in. The link is in the comments! ⤵️

BarbaraJean (Cont‘d) I‘ve tagged the schedule/announcements list for the buddy read, but all are welcome. If you‘re interested, please vote, and also feel free to add suggestions if there are books you‘re interested in that aren‘t on the voting list. Here‘s the link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdxffDRlyb8jkq7hu0lvfq6Mdw8H6B6qGC7RzkM... 3d
BarbaraJean @Mirazzles You‘re welcome to chime in on this poll if you‘d like! And I can tag you for any/all of the buddy read: re-reads, journals, adjacent books—whatever you‘re interested in. There are lots of people who jump in and out for whichever books they‘re interested in or have time for! 2d
julieclair Voted! So many good choices! 2d
BarbaraJean @julieclair Thanks for voting! At this point it looks like Last of the Mohicans will be in our future soon! Several other good ones, too 😊 1d

This witchy retelling of Anne of Green Gables is utterly charming and stars Grace, an orphan who must complete a grimoire full of spells to become the witch of the wood‘s apprentice…or lose her magic. I loved the culturally diverse cast of characters, the magical twists on the classic story, and that more readers will encounter one of my favorite characters in literature! Highly recommended for fans of Netflix‘s Anne with an E, of course!

This is a beautiful book filled with gorgeous pictures of Prince Edward Island, many of them taken by LMM herself. I don‘t think there is anyone who is better at describing scenery than LMM and she has such an ability to transport you to another time. Highly recommended for fans of Anne, LMM or even if you just love flowers. 5⭐️

We‘re headed back to Orilium and Veta Mae has some big decisions to make.

She‘s thinking of changing her Calling and hoping to make a new friend or 2.

Today‘s BN #bookhaul, courtesy of a gift card from my dad. I don‘t think I‘ve ever spent a gift card faster! The Lore Olympus are the BN exclusive editions and I hope to get volumes one and two tomorrow when we go to Dallas and visit a different store. Goddess Girls is the rest of kiddo‘s Christmas books that arrived late.

batsy Ooh, I covet that edition of the Greek Plays 😍 13mo
ravenlee @batsy there‘s an edition of The Greek Histories by the same translation/editing team, too. I‘m hoping to get it soon. And then, you know…actually read them. 13mo

“Our library isn‘t very expensive. But every book in it is a friend.” I absolutely loved seeing Anne become a wife and mother in this book. The first half of this book made my heart sore and sometimes cry. I will admit, about half way through the story I feel like Anne became an observer as apposed to the main character. It‘s still a great book though and I dearly love relate to a the newly wed wife and the dreams of her home.

This wasn't bad. It didn't feel much like a retelling of Anne of Green Gables though, and the similarities felt more like a distraction than an integral part of the plot. I liked Grace and Sareena. I think I would like to try another of Fawcett's books, one that isn't a retelling.

BarbaraJean I felt much the same. I liked that it didn‘t feel a lot like an AoGG retelling, just with a similar character and some parallels. But there were several moments that felt forced into an Anne mold that they didn‘t really fit! (edited) 1y
