So I was loving this book in the first half but my cynical self kept casting doubts on a few silly plot points. Soft pick, and certainly a recommended book if you like family drama. Everyone was likeable and I cheered for a positive ending. Sad stuff, though. Marriage is hard. Humans are complicated. #July2025 Book60

Pumpkin Pie mentioned at 35%. You can usually count on a Thanksgiving scene to have a pie mention. #iLovePie

There were some genuinely good moments in this book, but on the other hand, there were so many toxic male fantasy tropes.

MC being afflicted by madness was fun for a while until it was just taking too long to cure and I got sick of being hammered over the head of how everything he perceived was fake.

I could have also gone without the martial rape garbage.

Doppoetry I was rolling my eyes so much when both a very powerful female character and a literal goddess were swooning over MC for various reasons. It was so cringe-inducing.

On the other, other hand, I am up to date on these books! I am excited to read the new NEW novels

A lot of the plot points in this book were really weird and unnecessary, but when the book dealt with the main plot it was fine.

There were some parts where I was wondering if it was the aurhor's poorly disguised fetish or if it was something with the game lore itself that he borrowed from

Just finished this and it was okay. There were some really stupid plot points and decisions made but it was tolerable. This and the other two novels following it also seem to be taking place and are the cause of the events in The Out of the Abyss module. (My OOTA campaign is on a hiatus currently, but it's so amusing to me that my characters are unfortunately there to experience all of that mess)

Doppoetry I'll be taking a bit of a break from Drizzt, and reading some poetry collections. 10mo
Doppoetry I hope this will also mean I have more time to read physical books. 10mo

Last week was very off for me. I got very little reading done due to fatigue and things out of my control. Made little progress with Archmage, and was too tired for any physical reads. I hope this week will go better.

I am still struggling to find time to sit down and read WFTD, but I am aiming for next week. In the meantime I am continuing my Drizzt book binge, they are ones I can kind of zone out on and it wouldn't make much of a difference, so I listen to them when I play my fav MMO.

Doppoetry I also picked up JS&MN because of a book club discussion VOD I was watching (for Lud in the Mist) and one of the hosts mentioned how they got similar vibes from JS&MN. Having gotten through the first chapter I can attest to it being pretty whimsical and absolutely having similar vibes. 11mo
TieDyeDude I've heard good things about Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, but it's a bit of a clunker, so I have to plan out time to be able to really dig into it. 11mo
Doppoetry @TieDyeDude I generally don't really mind clunky books if they're well written (I love Tolkien) so I'm sure I'll do well with it. I also find it easier to get audiobooks of those kinds of books to make it easier and read along with a physical/digital copy. 11mo

Family drama is my go-to genre and I really liked this one. In some ways it reminded me of Nicholas Sparks storytelling. I liked that although it was not clarified, the reader knew early the reason if not the details, leading to the break up of Kyle and Casey. I liked that the reader was allowed to like both of them even through their flaws and I liked that the long resolution for the story came well before the last chapter..
