Topical redux #oscars #hughgrant

I first read this as a teenager & have since reread it many times, which is unusual for me. A rollicking tale told by an unreliable narrator, it still feels fresh & funny in the 21st C, so one can only imagine what the Victorians made of it in the nineteenth.

But what‘s not to love about the amoral, cunning heroine Becky Sharp? While she is far from admirable, she is only trying to make her way in the world...

This bookstore in Notting Hill was the inspiration for the same-called movie with High Grant and Julia Roberts. Also very sweet.

Pickpick

A pleasant, quick read, this British romance is told from multiple perspectives, but unlike many other recent novels that have attempted this, One Day didn‘t fail miserably (high praise, I know; I‘m a tough customer). With plenty of allusions to British romantic comedies, this tale puts its reader on a bit of an emotional roller coaster, and like the high-speed ride, you know where you‘re going, but that doesn‘t make the trip any less enjoyable.

dgingo I read One Day in December in one day this December (12.29.18).

Holidays are for book binging, no?

The_Heeler_Booklife I loved this book. I finished it a few days ago and it was just 😍 6y
dgingo @allthingskayla I enjoyed it, but I also would have liked to see Laurie and Jack together for a bit at the end. I know it wasn‘t ever going to live up to our expectations of them together, especially after all that time, but I would have still liked to see them together for a few pages. I hope they don‘t do it, but I get the feeling there will be a sequel. 6y
The_Heeler_Booklife @dgingo I agree that I wish there were more about Lu and Jack in the end and I wanted to see Sarah‘s wedding. Plus, it would been kind of funny to see Oscar again with a second failed marriage because he was married to his job. I do hope for a sequel, I would be over the moon for one. (edited) 6y
dgingo @allthingskayla And I felt like there was much more unsaid about Oscar‘s mom. Maybe it got edited out, as it was 400 pages. Yes—more with Sarah and Luke too. But, I loved the recipes at the end! 6y
