Recommend this on audio. Tagaq is an Inuit throat singer and she sings between chapters.
This is part poetry, part short story, and I am unsure how much is fiction. It is a unique and hard read (review trigger warnings, there is many dark abuses)

Rating for the originality and craft event though it was a bit dark for me.

merelybookish This has been on my shelf for ages. Hoping to get to it this year! 3d

My favorite read of November was Ada Blackjack: A True Story of Survival in the Arctic. This story has stuck with me and I am interested to read about it from other authors' points of view. I also delved a little bit into some of the primary sources and would like to read more of those too. #bookbracket #readingbracket #bookbracket2025 #readingbracket2025

Taaqtumi, by various authors (2019 🇨🇦)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Premise: An anthology of horror stories from the Arctic

Review: This is an impressive collection of stories, especially considering the small population of the Canadian Arctic regions from which it drew its contributors. I really appreciated the varied threats, from the supernatural to the natural to the human and everything in between. Like any anthology, it‘s uneven, but overall I enjoyed this.

This was a beautiful stunning book. Its the story of how an Inupiaq family survived on a boat trip in the Arctic. It explained how the mom sewn all the warm clothes for the crew and what they ate to survive in a cold unwavering environment. Artwork is just wonderful as the story itself.

I made a version of suaasat - originally a seal meat stew/soup - using beef, onion, carrots, potatoes and a handful of pearl barley (also a bay leaf, some thyme & stock cubes). It feels odd having a winter stew in the middle of a heatwave, but it was nice, although prob. quite different from the authentic dish 😊 I guess I'll just have to visit #Greenland for that!

I made Kalaallit Kaagiat, a raisin and cardamom bread, using the automatic translation of this page: https://mamarisavut.gl/da/opskrifter/groenlandsk-kage-med-aeggepulver/ The English recipes I found online were a lot sweeter, which didn't appeal as much. It was like a slightly cardamom-scented pannetone & perfect with coffee.

Dilara I had iced coffee because we're in a heatwave right now & Greenlandic coffee (whiskey, kalhua, grand marnier and coffee) looks like overkill to me 😂 7mo

This is a huge coffee-table book about Malaurie's stays in various places in the Arctic, from #Greenland to Canada to Alaska and finally, to Chukotka, from the late 40s to the 90s. His outlook can be a bit dated sometimes, but his love for the people and the friends he made there over the years is obvious.
