I don't read a lot of poetry, and I won't pretend that I understood everything in this collection. But I really appreciated the way these poems were written and the glimpses you get of the author's struggles with being indigenous & trans, internally & interpersonally, and growing up in foster care. It also made me want to listen to Florence + the Machine, which I'm not mad about

This one started off strong - singing a karaoke break up song to your now ex. But it went downhill after that. After hooking up, Toni & Audrey realize they're now working together & must be professional. Audrey isn't ready for a new relationship right after her last toxic one ended anyway. In the end I didn't feel like either character had any real growth. This could have been better if expanded to a full novel

Kenyazero Dang! I hate when a book starts strong but then flops! 6d

The waters of the bayou are rising. People from town are disappearing. & Eugene finds himself entranced by the Bonnie & Clyde pair that‘s swept into town.

Wow can Powell set a scene! I could feel the heaviness of a Louisiana summer against my skin. & the insidious creeping horror as we don‘t know really know anything that‘s going on. Really reminds me of Alma Katsu‘s historical horror. & I‘m definitely going to look up more by Powell. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Bingo!! Double bingo!!

I‘ve really been focusing on lgbtq books this year and succeeded in readying a lot so far, although this includes novellas, short stories, and poetry so they aren‘t all big chunksters.

Going for a full card by the end of the year.

Kenyazero Making excellent progress! It's nice getting to mix it up between chunksters and less weighty reads. Many of my Bingo reads are graphic novels! 2w

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

An interesting sapphic/queer dystopian science fiction gender swapped Sherlock Holmes and Watson retelling, set on Jupiter.

Mossa‘s investigation starts after a man disappears from one of the less often visited platforms they live on. Potential suicide? Or is there something more going on?

Read this book after doing a quiz by @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian !

An LGBTQIA+ read involving a book store and a mysterious power struggle over secret information sounded like a perfect pick for me. Unfortunately, I didn't love this. The writing style didn't quite work for me, and I didn't much enjoy the character relationship. The pacing also felt a bit off, and it's obvious the author doesn't know what PTSD is like. #LGBTQIA

This filled my #LGBTQ2024 "Disappointed" bingo space #LGBTQBookBingo2024

When Ellie dreams of her recently dead cousin, her ghost speaking abilities help her realize that her cousin was murdered, & there is a much darker mystery at the heart of his Texan hometown.

Wow! This blew me away! The characters were all delightful. Absolutely loved the urban fantasy feels, in such a unique way. Excellent pacing & I was kept guessing on the bigger mystery right up until the end! Definitely an author to follow! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

An anthology of science fiction stories by queer voices and with queer representation.

Anthologies are pretty hit & miss for me, & this one didn‘t really hit. The stories were mostly fine, the narrators were great, but I want sci fi that I‘m still thinking about.

Although I will be searching out E Saxey, because the story Amelioration has me thinking about language & hateful rhetoric. I listened to that story twice before moving on. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cute story about finding yourself and your gender presentation.

Dawn discovers a love letter written between two women dating from the 1950s in a book she‘s rebinding and follows the mystery of who they are and what happened to them. What enfolds ends up mirroring her life in unexpected ways.

Predictable, but a good story and what I needed for the moment.

Kicked out of his family, Manny travels until he learns of an identified body near where he used to live. Worried that it‘s his sister, he returns to confront his past & everything he‘s been running from.

Such an intense read! Questions of identity, conformity, & the abuse of power by those supposed to care for the most vulnerable. Very clever with the changing POVs/fonts. & a supernatural twist I think could have been set up better. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
