"Brilliance on every single page."CHRISTINA LAUREN, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, for Boyfriend Material FAKE AMNESIA. REAL FEELINGS? REAL PROBLEMS. Sam Becker lovesor, okay, likeshis job. Sure, managing a bed and bath retailer isn't exactly glamorous, but it's good work and he gets on well with the band of misfits who keep the store running. He could see himself being content here for the long haul. Too bad, then, that the owner is an infuriating git. Jonathan Forest should never have hired Sam. It was a sentimental decision, and Jonathan didn't get where he is by following his heart. Determined to set things right, Jonathan orders Sam down to London for a difficult talk...only for a panicking Sam to trip, bump his head, and maybe accidentally imply he doesn't remember anything? Faking amnesia seemed like a good idea when Sam was afraid he was getting sacked, but now he has to deal with the reality of Jonathan's guiltas well as the unsettling fact that his surly boss might have a softer side to him. There's an unexpected freedom in getting a second shot at a first impression...but as Sam and Jonathan grow closer, can Sam really bring himself to tell the truth, or will their future be built entirely on one impulsive lie? "The apotheosis of the rom-com."Entertainment Weekly, A+ Review, for Boyfriend Material "Delicious, ridiculous, and often poignant." Talia Hibbert, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, for Husband Material "Every once in a while you read a book that you want to SCREAM FROM ROOFTOPS about. I'm screaming, people!"Sonali Dev, award-winning author, for Boyfriend Material

It's definitely @Jari-chan's fault I'm re-reading this #RomCom right now.

Jari-chan Aww, enjoy!! 🤩 1mo
GingerAntics How does it compare to Boyfriend Material and Husband Material? 1mo
julesG @GingerAntics I like it more than BM/HM. I'm not saying I don't like the two, but 10 Things has slightly more mature MCs. Luc is Luc and I love him, but I really like Sam, who has his baggage, a large portion of sarcasm and does stupid things, but he doesn't act as "immature" as Luc sometimes does. In other words, I recommend 10 Things. The audiobook is great, because Sam is from Liverpool and the narrator nails the accent. 1mo

I've never heard of Bubble and Squeak before reading this book. But how could I not look up a vegan version of this recipe? I mean it's called "Bubble and Squeak" ?

It had some Röschti vibes but with more veggies in ?

julesG Bubble and Squeak is a favourite here. I introduced my kids to it some years ago. And, just like British tea, they embraced the idea. 1mo
julesG Also, I want to re-read the book now. 🙈 1mo
Jari-chan @julesG It really is a tasty dish, so I totally get your children 😁 Enjoy your re-read when you get to it 🤭 1mo

Soubhiville You‘ve made me want to try it. I‘ve heard of it before (thanks Terry Pratchett!) and I‘m not sure why I never looked it up. 🙂 1mo
Jari-chan @Soubhiville Lovely! Enjoy it 😋 1mo
Kimzey Oh, I need to make that recipe again. It‘s been years! I recall the cabbage did squeal a bit in the frying pan. 1mo
Jari-chan @Kimzey How cool yours did squeal 😁 Enjoy! 1mo
Bookwomble B&S is a regional delicacy where I'm from (Lancashire, England) 😋 A working class dish to use up scraps and left overs. In our house it was usually accompanied by a fry-up of offal from the butcher which, as the youngest, I had to go and collect, and which is probably why I turned vegetarian 😆 1mo
Kenyazero I love discovering foods while reading! 1mo
Jari-chan @Bookwomble That's a relatable reason 😱😅 1mo
Jari-chan @Kenyazero I do too! ❤️ 1mo

It seems like LGBTQIA+ romance novels become my new escape genre. Would you have told me some years ago that I would enjoy romance books, I would've called you crazy. Since I'm new to these kind of books I can't really judge the tropes and how they were executed. All I can say is that this book made me laugh so hard, reading those parts to my wife and made her laugh too. And I totally rooted for those two and didn't want to stop reading.

julesG The German title is weird. For a second I thought this was a sequel. 2mo
Jari-chan It's so confusing when German publishers switch the original English title for another English title 🙈 I wish they wouldn't do that... 2mo
CarolynM I kind of like that title. The original one seems a little odd to me. @julesG I thought it might be a sequel for a minute too😆 (edited) 2mo

Jari-chan @CarolynM Agree, the original title reminded me somewhat of all those movies with a 10 in the title 😅 2mo
julesG The non-German German title is good. @CarolynM And I agree, the "Ten Things..." title makes me think of RomComs, but maybe that's exactly why Alexis Hall chose it. 2mo

Sam likes his job selling bed and bath stuff, unfortunately he doesn‘t get along with the owner, Johnathan. When an accident mid-firing leaves Sam with a concussion, he desperately decides to pretend to have amnesia to buy him time to save his and his team‘s jobs.
Johnathan guiltily volunteers to take care of Sam until he gets better but neither of them expect to actually get along. Until the truth comes out.

#Two4Tuesday a little late.
1. I really liked 10 Things That Never Happened, Heartstopper vol 4 & 5 and Into the Tide.
2. I am going to be rereading some Marissa Meyer books before meeting her for a book signing. I'm also going to start the Shelter and Skelton Creek series.

Although the pretext for two characters being thrown together in this romance is ridiculous (feigning amnesia) - it doesnt matter AT ALL because Alexis Hall writes such wonderful characters with realistic and funny banter. I loved the side characters too, who had some of the best lines. Made me laugh out loud a couple times! I love that her characters have imperfections and baggage that makes them more rounded too 💕

I'm so glad I got the #audiobook! Will Watts was great narrating this accent heavy book with a Scouse MC and 90% secondary characters from Sheffield.

Solid, Alexis Hall M/M #Romance/#RomCom.

Sam is the branch manager of a bed&bathroom store in Sheffield. He has to come to the Croydon branch to meet with the boss. Sam has an accident in the shower stall department and has to stay with his boss Jonathan because of concussion and maybe amnesia. ⬇️

julesG Set at Christmas. Grump-Sunshine/Enemies-to-Lovers romance. There's also an 'adorable' rescue cat. 5mo

First Christmas themed book of the season. Wasn't aware it's a 🎄 book.

I listened to this one and loved it. I started the ARC in July but had a health setback then. Turned to the audiobook this month and I‘m so glad I did. I love hearing different accents.
Alexis Hall is just fabulous! The characters, the settings and the story are all so well crafted.

I‘m an Alexis Hall fan & there were parts of this I loved. But I finished the book and I have no idea what the 10 Things that Never Happened Were. Also, while I love British humor & it usually works for me, a lot of what was supposed to be funny just wasn‘t funny to me. ❤️❤️❤️ #romcom

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage That‘s a shame ☹️ but I find this is true with British humor sometimes (edited) 6mo

Is it written by Alexis Hall? Well, I‘m going to enjoy it then, obviously. This one has all the wit and heart I could hope for. I have to say, though, for an Australian of my generation a character named Aunty Jack creates a mental image totally different from the one I am sure the author intended🤣🤣🤣

Ast_Arslan I think this is a sign for me as I'm about to start reading Boyfriend material 😂 6mo
Megabooks Hey! I‘ve been away from litsy awhile, but I see you‘re dealing a lot with elder care too (which is why I‘ve been so off and on). Sending love and support to you!! 💜💜 6mo

CarolynM @Megabooks Thanks Meg. I‘ve had a very intense period with elder care over the last few months but I‘m not dealing with the ongoing issues I believe you deal with. I admire your commitment, particularly given your own health concerns. Take care💕 6mo

Well... I was scared there wouldn't be a HEA! At least a teeny bit. ;-)

Very fun rom-com inspired romance. Took me a bit to get into because the workplace shenanigans were tiresome, but I loved it by the end and even cried a bit. The audiobook narration was extremely good, with an astonishing variety of distinct voices and accents.

I love how Alexis Hall delivers romcoms that genuinely earn the moniker. 10 THINGS THAT NEVER HAPPENED is packed full of wacky hijinks, OTT scenarios, and running gags. (My favourite is how the characters always state the full name of every posh bed & bath fixture their company sells, even if someone else just did so.) I snickered my way through it, more than willing to overlook the implausibility because it was just so. much. fun. ⬇️

xicanti It also gives off strong Christmas vibes, offers feels of both the romantic and familial varieties, and gives its characters room to grow as they navigate their very strange, very amusing scenario. And the audio production works beautifully thanks to narrator Will Watt‘s sense of comedic timing and Northern energy. I‘m a happy reader (/listener). 6mo

I finished the tagged book while I worked on this tiny greenhouse! Full review coming soon, but for now I‘ll say it‘s pure holiday romcom. I had a lot of fun with it and got a real kick out of the narrator‘s northernness and sense of comedic timing. #audiocrafting

I‘ve sewn up a storm this month, which is a big part of why I‘ve been reading so slowly. I move around enough and make so much noise that #audiosewing isn‘t often an option for me now I‘ve switched from phone-listening to iPad-listening (sans wireless earbuds), but I did get through a fair chunk of the tagged book while I did the hem on this piece by hand. The story‘s got me chortling merrily away, AND it‘s put me in the mood for holiday romances.

LaraS This looks awesome! I never have the patience for sewing a hem by hand, I know having an invisible hem makes a huge difference but by the time I get to the hem I'm too excited to finish. 😂 7mo
xicanti @LaraS we had a long power outage yesterday morning, so I couldn‘t operate my iron or my sewing machine. I figured this fabric would be easier to deal with if I hemmed it by hand anyways, and in I went! 7mo

Okay, so you know when a book has plot holes, and unlikable characters (but not really in a good way), and lying at the beginning of a maybe relationship which is just not the foundation for a relationship (maybe). But.. But. The storytelling is so so good that you cannot put the unbelievable and very misguided book down?
That is Alexis Hall's newest book out October 17th. If you liked his Boyfriend Material you will enjoy this too, probably.
