If you like the premise of Dexter, Haze and Fox are the new serial killing couple that choose bad men to seal their urges. Everything changes once they become parents. Loved this…does that mean something bad about me? Too bad, fun read.

Mehso-so

Two psychopaths who convince themselves they do good by only torturing and murdering "bad men" have a baby and try to stop killing. I see this as a comedy of manners in that it humorously mocks the entitlement of the rich, and the audio is great. But it glorifies vigilante murder more than making fun of it, and sometimes Haze's cluelessness about practical life and Fox's dishonesty are annoying rather than funny.

"Why even be a fake alcoholic if I couldn't speak my slightly altered truth and be embraced as a survivor?" --rich, privileged serial killer trying to overcome his addiction to killing by attending AA meetings, not understanding why no one feels sorry for his stress endured when trying to get into an Ivy League school and being forced to learn ballroom dancing. ?

Mackay‘s novel gives us a completely relatable profile of marriage struggling to find its footing as the couple gives up the pursuits that first brought them together. That what Hazel (Haze) and Fox are giving up is murder, is kind of beside the point. Fox is trying to create a safe world for their child. Hazel agrees, but struggles to define herself in a world without the violence that fueled her art. A great read, and the ending is pure fun!

Is it weird to say this book is relatable? I‘ll let you decide if I mean the marriage part or something else 😂

A bit ridiculous and opens a bit slowly, but this one actually winds up being a lot of fun! Imagine if Dexter had a murderous wife & together they hunted across Europe for bad people to kill & that‘s what Hazel & husband, Fox, do. Until they have a baby. Now Hazel struggles against the no killing rule, Fox starts keeping secrets of his own & while one good conversation pretty much resolves it all, this still is a fun read that had me giggling!
