willaful How did I forget to read my chapter last night?! 2d
lil1inblue Did anyone else giggle at Campion saying “Oh, Inky-Pinky“? Also - the angry lady that smacked Beethoven with a crop!!! What! 2d
BarkingMadRead @lil1inblue it reminds me of Hugh Grant in Nottinghill 🤣 2d
lil1inblue @BarkingMadRead YES! 😂 😍 2d
mcctrish I completely underestimated the Hunt #istandcorrected Lady Di-something or other wins and Guffy gets a second for excellent crop wielding 2d
willaful As anyone who's read Wodehouse knows, you do NOT mess with the oldest members. 😂 Love how British this whole chapter is. 2d

ElizaMarie The whole asking him to sign without looking at the body? Hmmm 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩 3w
Bookwormjillk I know it wasn‘t a heart attack but did they say what it was? The party must go on! 3w

peanutnine So sus 🚩 3w
willaful Good grief! His dying words were “better not kill the groove!“ LOL! 3w
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk nope! It‘s still a mystery! 🔪 3w
Bookwormjillk @willaful 🤣🤣🤣 3w
AllDebooks Sure, I'll sign that, no questions asked. 👀 3w
Bklover Sounds pretty fishy to me! (Is that still a phrase?) 3w
willaful @Bklover might be a red herring! 3w
Bklover @willaful 😉😂😂 3w
mcctrish I don‘t think his plan to sign and then run to the village in the morning to get the constabulary is sound #whatcouldgowrong 3w
lil1inblue @mcctrish It's fine. Everything will be fine. 🤣🤣🤣 3w
mcctrish @lil1inblue I wonder if there is a crematorium on the estate #kingofashes 🔥🔥 3w
kspenmoll @mcctrish It‘s so shady there very well might be a crematorium there! Or just a bonfire?! 3w

ElizaMarie Wow!!! Didn't expect that! 4w
BarbaraJean I knew about the controversial ending, but I didn‘t realize it would be the ending ending. Like the last scene. All of this and then THAT. I can‘t. And what was up with Rose of Sharon‘s little mysterious smile?!? 😳 That took it over the edge from uncomfortable to creepy. Still. This was a relentlessly sad and infuriating masterpiece. 4w

eeclayton #mysoulhurtstoo What a heartbreaking story. Thanks @BarkingMadRead and #HashtagBrigade for this buddy read. It's a beautifully written and tragically relevant book, but I wouldn't have been able to finish it if it wasn't for you. 4w
Crinoline_Laphroaig I had to finish before Thanksgiving, I didn't want to be reading with family here. My reaction was WTF? That's it? 4w
lauraisntwilder While the ending is unexpected, Steinbeck was setting us up for something like that the whole time. It's another example of how the poor are only able to rely on other poor people, to the point of sacrificing their own comfort or propriety. There are no strangers anymore and everyone is family. I think Rose of Sharon is glad for something good to come from her heartbreak. Just my take. What a book!!! 4w
Bookwormjillk I had remembered the ending but not the scene with Uncle John and the baby. That hit me hard this read. Also reading this made want to try to do better about my bitterness towards my husband‘s cousin living in my basement 😂 Thanks as always @BarkingMadRead looking forward to starting something short tomorrow. 4w
dabbe I just couldn't reread it this time. After having to teach it in high school (as well as OF MICE AND MEN), I couldn't face the bleakness this time. But, oh, how I love Steinbeck's writing. Here's for a short read in December! Thanks @BarkingMadRead for your on-point #hashtags--as always. 🩵☃️💙 4w
KAO I had never read this, and I‘m so glad I did it this month with you all. I found the writing truly wonderful, even though the unfolding of events really brought heartbreak after heartbreak. I do wish Steinbeck could have given us more hope for these tough characters at the end. Tragic! 4w
Bklover Well. I‘m glad I read it. @BarkingMadRead made it possible, but I am glad it‘s over. Beautiful writing. East of Eden I could read again- this one nope. Thanks @BarkingMadRead ❤️ 3w
KAO @Bklover I loved East of Eden too—and agree that I could read it again. This Grapes of Wrath journey was just so endlessly sad. I‘m still glad that I read it though. 3w
Bklover Me too, @KAO I know that this was the only group I‘d get through it with! 3w

TMI ALERT (keep scrolling if you don‘t want to know)

I got my first period in January. I skipped in February. In March, I was hoping for early menopause. I. Was. Over. It. I also didn‘t tell a soul until April when someone finally noticed. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Who are these lunatics wanting MORE of this madness? WTF is wrong with these people?!

In hind sight, I was struggling with my gender identity already. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Catholic school did NOT warn me about that

TheBookHippie I don‘t get it either. 2mo

GingerAntics @TheBookHippie sometimes I really worry about people! 2mo
ravenlee Wait, what? I‘m hating the whole perimenopause thing, but I an absolutely ready for the periods to go away - which is, of course, the one thing that isn‘t happening. 😖 2mo
GingerAntics @ravenlee right? I got an IUD for hormone imbalance and I hardly ever (like maybe once a year for like a day, but it‘s mostly like spotting) get a period. Let me tell you, the IUD is the most awesome invention ever!!! I don‘t care what people say. Come at me!!! 2mo
GingerAntics @ravenlee perimenopause is insane. I hate it. I feel like a kid on a really long road trip. Is it over yet?! Negative 5 stars. Do not recommend!!! 2mo
Cuilin I think this is connected to youth obsession and maybe an idea of losing your “function” either way it‘s fucked up. 2mo
GingerAntics @Cuilin oh, she definitely tied it to that. Some women have delayed menopause so they could focus on their careers and have children later. Others are literally doing it for youth. The first reason I get. It‘s similar to freezing your eggs to use later or use a surrogate later. Just to be young. Eh That‘s extreme. 2mo
GingerAntics @Cuilin the procedure she was specifically talking about was having strips of your ovaries removed and preserved when you‘re young (like in your 20s) and then having those strips grafted back onto your ovaries later (like late 30s or early 40s) and apparently it can let you have children later. Just for the youth, dude that is just so extreme. 2mo
ravenlee I had an IUD when my kid was young, and I was the opposite. I ended up having so many periods so close together and miserably long, I confused a GYN PA. She asked the dare of my last period and I almost cried, because I‘d had six or seven in three months and the last one (which was ongoing at the time) was already at 18 days. Yeah…I had that removed… 2mo
GingerAntics @ravenlee yeah, it‘s crazy how differently people react to things. I have a friend who had one put in about the same time I did, and she has spotted every day since. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Of course, who knows what IUD we all had and if we each had/have the one that‘s best for us. I don‘t know. It gets REALLY confusing. 2mo
GingerAntics @ravenlee it does confuse the hell out of time though. Every time they check my meds at the doctor‘s they always ask “are you still on the Kyleena?” And I‘m like, that‘s that? I probably have a generic, and they have to tell me no, it‘s my IUD. Like, I‘m pretty sure it‘s still in there. No one has gone looking for it lately, but I did get an X-ray of my hip and in the final report it said all these things about my hip joint… 2mo
GingerAntics @ravenlee and then the very last sentence: “IUD is in place.” Like, thanks? 🤣😂🤣 Good to know? 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2mo

Different Seasons | Stephen King
post image

After finally getting myself to finish this collection after the third story bombed, I actually enjoyed this one. Talk about a trip. I probably won‘t ever use “the breathing method” if I somehow end up having kids after this though. It has a rather interesting description of birth and pregnancy in it that lawmakers should be forced to meditate on. Just saying.

GingerAntics Not so much spooky as weird, but it had a breathing head! 2mo

dabbe As someone who's slowly melting away in Phoenix, I am literally counting the days until fall--though that won't matter because my grandma always said the weather here wouldn't change until the new moon in October. And yep, I've looked that up, too: Oct. 21st. But a big YES to the Halloween decorations! #wtf 🧡🤎💛 4mo
mcctrish It‘s hot here ( London, On) and I basically live in the same three shirts/tees sets and I don‘t care anymore. There will be clothes still for sale when it finally gets cooler 4mo

mcctrish I had no idea this wasn‘t finished - after all Molly went through this is the ending we get ?! 5mo

willaful SO MADDENING! How did we not know this?! I wanna see Molly happy! I wanna see Dr. Gibson slough off NotClare somehow! I guess we can watch a filmed version to get some kind of closure.. 5mo
Bookwormjillk So I'm guessing she died before she finished? Too bad. Still liked this book but kind of melancholy over the ending. The characters were great in this one. 5mo
peanutnine Yes I was so surprised at the abrupt end of the last chapter! But my version had an afterword that gave details about where Gaskell planned to go with the story before she died, so it was nice to know Molly gets her happy ending @mcctrish @willaful @Bookwormjillk 5mo
Ruthiella @peanutnine My book had this too. It does have a HEA! 5mo
Bookwormjillk @peanutnine my book had that too but it wasn‘t really clear where the information came from. But there was something about Cynthia‘s new husband being like “Wait you know Rodger???” and I got a kick out of that. 5mo
eeclayton I had the afterword, too. But even without it, Mrs Gaskell set up the HEA nicely, and she was no Charlotte Brontë to kill off Roger somewhere in Africa 😂 5mo
mcctrish @peanutnine mine had the afterward and thank god - I really was in a panic with how much book there was left and how much story there was to tell - but it felt too abrupt. All this ongoing story ( especially #notclare with her long winded double speak) ending with “dear reader, Roger married Molly. The end” 5mo
Ruthiella @eeclayton OH MY! ??? I she had pulled a Charlotte Brontë trick like the end of Villette? ? 5mo
peanutnine @eeclayton I am SO GLAD she didn't!! @mcctrish I agree, it was abrupt and I wanted all the details like we got for the whole rest of the story! I'm sure it would have been much more satisfying 5mo
ElizaMarie Yes!!! Actually if I had knownn- I probably would have skipped this book because it irked me soon much!!! 5mo
Clare-Dragonfly Sooooo, some of you didn‘t know that Gaskell died before finishing this book 😅 I have the edition with the ending written by her publisher but I was saving that for tomorrow! 5mo
Bklover Well, I am glad for the HEA, but I would have loved to have seen Cynthia have children and love them madly! 5mo
Lcsmcat @peanutnine That‘s how my edition handled it too. Still disappointed that we didn‘t get to see how Gaskell would have gotten us there. 5mo
AnnCrystal @PageShifter is having the same difficulty with images. 5mo
Bookwormjillk Forgot to say thanks @BarkingMadRead 5mo
dabbe I‘m in the minority, but I liked how it ended with both Molly and Roger seeing one another, saying nothing, but knowing where their hearts were and where their future lay. To me, their souls said more to each other than their spoken words ever could. Thanks for hilariously leading us again, @BarkingMadRead. 😍 5mo

BarkingMadRead @mcctrish I‘ve said it before (and got put in facebook jail for hate speech) #boysaredumb 6mo
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead Zuckerberg is a case in point 6mo
Cuilin @mcctrish agreed. All of the male characters are lacking in the smarts department. 6mo
Bookwormjillk @BarkingMadRead maybe you should have said boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider 6mo
Clare-Dragonfly @mcctrish Hahahaha, yes! After reading this you‘ll want to go to Cranford where the men all die! 6mo
mcctrish @Clare-Dragonfly if only we‘d read this one first, we‘d have felt so justified with every death in Cranford 6mo
ElizaMarie I can't with Cynthia- ugh!!! She is the worst 6mo
Bklover You‘re correct! There really isn‘t a man in this book who isn‘t a bit thick in the head. @mcctrish 6mo
