#ThreeListThursday #TLT @dabbe
Well, this one oughta be fun! I'm such a sucker for book lists. 🤣
1. Survey link: https://www.listchallenges.com/1001-books-you-must-read-before-you-die-1700s
2. Share your score if you'd like.
3. Share your 3 favorites from the list or 3 that you might be interested in reading, or 3 you thought were horrible or a combo of whatever you'd like.
4. Tag a few!
Tagging Littens who played last week. 🤩

Librarybelle I got 16, but there are so many I‘m in the middle of but did not count because I did not finish them. Some I‘ve not heard of before and others are on my to read list. 😂 2d
BarkingMadRead 27 for me (I counted two that I‘m currently reading) 2d
lil1inblue Uh oh. This era does not bode well for me... 😂 2d

BooksandCoffee4Me Oh, 22 only! Jane Austen saved me on this one. So many I‘d not heard of but look interesting! Remembered how much I loved Woman in White. Thanks for the tag @dabbe 💛 2d
CSeydel Just 11. Not bad for a STEM major, though, right? … right?? 2d
CSeydel Probably another 11 on my TBR. But most of them I hadn‘t heard of 😔 2d
Amor4Libros I got 1…Moby Dick! 🤣🤣 2d
dabbe @Librarybelle 🎯🩵🎯 Most from the 1700s, I'm like 😳! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @BarkingMadRead Thank goodness for the #hashtagbrigade! We were able to count quite a few! (and I included MILL ON THE FLOSS since we will be finished soon). Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @lil1inblue 🎯🩵🎯! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @BooksandCoffee4Me #ditto! I adored WOMAN IN WHITE! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @CSeydel R.I.G.H.T.! 🤣😍🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @CSeydel 🎯🩵🎯! 2d
dabbe @Amor4Libros And I only read “Call me Ishmael“ and called it a day! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
SaunteringVaguelyDownwards Got 22, which is not too bad for a Lit major focusing on contemporary texts! 2d
dabbe @SaunteringVaguelyDownwards I think you'll kick some serious ass as we move forward in years! 🤩 Thanks for playing and sharing! 🩵📚🩵 2d
willaful Only 20 for me! Would be a bit higher if I had participated in *all* the #HashtagBrigade reads. ;-) Nothing I especially want to read but certainly might if the brigade does them. :-) 2d
peaKnit I know face slaps are not allowed but @dabbe…I got 4 😂 thank gosh for Jane Austen. 2d
shortsarahrose I got 12, which is honestly better than I expected (thanks mostly to actually liking 19th century American lit - Melville, Hawthorne, Poe). Sorrows of Young Werther should count twice cause I read it in German 😆 (surprised that with three Goethe texts on the list, Faust wasn‘t one of them! I guess maybe because it‘s technically a play?) 2d
Bklover 18- thanks to #hashtagbrigade and Jane Austen. There are quite a few I hadn‘t even heard of! 2d
TheSpineView Thanks for the tag! 🥰💛🏷 2d
Bookwormjillk Lucky 13. Grateful for#PemberLittens and #HashtagBrigade 🤣 2d
Bookwormjillk @BarkingMadRead I definitely counted Mill on the Floss. We‘re almost done! 2d
Read4life Thanks for the tag!! 💙📚💙 2d
ChaoticMissAdventures Oh! It is too bad they couldn't find a few more 😂 thanks for the tag! 2d
Deblovestoread Thanks for the tag! I‘m going to get my book out before I do the survey as my memory was much better back then. 2d
Daisey @tpixie I went through and have read 39 (including currently reading Mill on the Floss). I‘ll have to watch for these the next few weeks. 2d
dabbe @willaful The #hashtagbrigade saved my sorry ass! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @peaKnit I think the only one I read from the 1700s was GULLIVER'S TRAVELS. The others I was like 😳. 🤣 We'll get better as the list moves forward a few years!
Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵
2d
dabbe @shortsarahrose Yep, I think plays don't count, though they should. And you should count it twice! I read COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO in French, and I counted it twice. I needed all the help I could get! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @Bklover IKR? 1700s was like 😳!!! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @TheSpineView YW! 😍 2d
dabbe @Bookwormjillk IKR? Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @Bookwormjillk I did, too! 🤣 2d
dabbe @Read4life YW! 😍 2d
dabbe @Deblovestoread You have this book? How cool is that? I'm thinking of getting it! 😍 2d
dabbe @Daisey You beat my sorry butt! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
AnnCrystal Thank You For The Tag 📚😉👍🏼💝. (edited) 2d
dabbe @AnnCrystal YW! 😍 2d
Lesliereadsalot Thanks for the tag but I can barely remember what I had for lunch let alone books from my far past! 🩷 2d
AnnCrystal Whispering again...👀...Zero!

I did watch many as movies, but it's been years.

1 - Carmilla. Long Time TBR book (I'm horrible, still need to read Dracula too).

Movies

2- North and South I saw one version of this many years ago and fell in love with the story

3- Orson Welles In Jane Eyre 💝💝💝.

📚💝.
(edited) 2d
melissajayne 17/100 2d
rwmg 39 including 2 I DNF-ed (Clarissa and Tristam Shandy).
2d
Eggs 6 🙀🙄!!! 2d
julesG I might have read 13 books from that list. 2d
julesG @shortsarahrose I had similar thoughts about Goethe and was wondering why a few others were missing. Them being plays might be the reason. 2d
Amiable I don‘t even care about my score —the fact that I could check off “Clarissa” caused me to shout “YES!!” and pump my fist in celebration. 🎉 ☝🏼😀 2d
tpixie 12. It said the average was 18! 2d
TheLudicReader Hahahahaha. 8. 2d
dabbe @AnnCrystal I adored OW as Rochester! That's my favorite version, too. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @melissajayne Those 1700s! #oy 😳 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @rwmg You kicked my sorry butt! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @Eggs Thank goodness we're past the 1700s! I was like 😳 when I saw those books! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @julesG I was all about the “might“ on this list. 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @julesG I think you're right. 🎯 2d
dabbe @Amiable Is that like the longest book in the English language? I don't think I could even attempt--nor would I want to! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @tpixie Together we average 18.5, so we're good! 😍 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
dabbe @TheLudicReader Reading with the #hashtagbrigade and loving Austen are the only two things that gave me a few more books. 1700s? #wtf 😳 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2d
Amiable @dabbe It is the longest! I couldn‘t have gotten through it without the Litsy #Clarissa crew. 2d
dabbe @Amiable I barely made it through WAR AND PEACE, so I don't know if I could even fathom reading this one! Was the writing good? 1d
tpixie @dabbe I like your math! 1d
AnnCrystal @dabbe 🤩👍🏼😍🎬💝. 1d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Only 8 from these. I should check a few of these out. I don't remember much about A Modest Proposal other than a one line plot description, but I know I thought it was clever. Wild that we read it in school. I enjoy Edgar Allan Poe, so those two are probably the favorites. I've seen Emma on film and read a graphic novel. I'm counting that in my tally because I've decided that Austen novels just aren't for me. 1d
dabbe This was me looking through the ones from the 1700s: 😳😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵💙🩵 14h

TheAromaofBooks While I can't like Maggie's dad as a person (so far anyway) I do appreciate that he thinks the world of Maggie. 1mo
mcctrish I think Maggie grew up a bit today. 1mo

Clare-Dragonfly I‘m glad Maggie didn‘t get any deeper into trying to teach them than she did, or they might have gotten upset! As it is they were kind people. 1mo
julieclair @mcctrish Agreed. She learned a bit about the world. And thankfully made it home safe and sound! 1mo
Bookwormjillk I had to laugh at the idea of Maggie just running into her Dad. That must have been a shock. 1mo
ElizaMarie I love the fact that she really thought she would be fit to be Queen of the Gypsies 1mo
Morr_Books @ElizaMarie 🤣 Don't know that the thimble was enough to buy her that role. 1mo
Leftcoastzen Imagine! No tea ! How COULD someone be queen of the Gypsies & live that way ? 😁They were ultimately kind, her father was beside himself 1mo
dabbe Wonder how long Mrs. T and Tom will leave Maggie alone? 🤔 Bets, anyone? 1mo
BarkingMadRead @dabbe not long 🤣🤣 1mo

If we hold fast to grammar and the idea that grammar rules have never changed and therefore original intent and meaning can be deduced through written text, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Maine become unconstitutional and cease to exist in modern America. Just think about that for a minute.

I do not like this author. She does not feel safe (if that makes sense to anyone else).
“A setting is what you make of it” is how she white washes the abuse she endured at the hands of a weirdo in LA (complete with “unauthorised portraits”). This does not feel mentally well. LA gave her “courage and a thick skin” ... don‘t forget the trauma and denial she‘s making light of.

Ruthiella I love how rain causes such illnesses in Regency/Victorian novels (see also Sense & Sensibility). 💧💧🤒 2mo
mcctrish OMG the twists and the turns. Pork chop is a master manipulator #oceans11vibes Percy Pig is such a twat! Where the hell did typhus come from? I swear at this point I was thinking did the ‘private nurse‘ bring it? Or were they just one step away from typhus at this point in history despite being upper class and having household staff to clean up the lice, etc…? 2mo
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish I was going to google it, but i was afraid to go down the rabbit hole 🤣 I am very suspicious of the whole thing though, like was it ever typhus? Did they pay that young doc to lie? So many questions! 2mo
Bookwormjillk This section was bananas. What do we read tomorrow? The rest of Epoch 2? 2mo
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk yes! It‘s only like 10 pages, how sweet is that?!? 2mo
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead I feel like this entire book is a lesson in gaslighting #idontknowwhichendisup #trustnoone 2mo
Bookwormjillk @BarkingMadRead very sweet! @mcctrish yes on the gaslighting. I feel like Pork Chop is playing chess and Percy is playing checkers but they‘re both very effective in their manipulations. 2mo
julieclair So much going on here!! I love it! But I‘m very afraid for Laura in London. 😬 2mo
Leftcoastzen Didn‘t they mention that #countporkchop knew about poisoning? Some of course kill you , but others can make you sick. Though lady gets wet , gets a chill, gets real sick is common in these novels 2mo
dabbe My lord, how women were at the mercy of men in this era. You're simply property, and that's it. Oh, and an apparent ATM for all of your debts. #percypig and #porkchop are beyond evil. So much melodrama! That's what Collins was known for, and he writes it well! What a soap opera this would be! 2mo

willaful Could you take me off the tag list please? I'd really like to read it with you but I just don't seem to be doing it. :-( 2mo
BarkingMadRead @willaful absolutely 2mo
ElizaMarie Percy is lower than a dog! That doggie not liking him is a #RedFlag and just #AlllTheMoney IF she dies? Hmm... are we setting up for some future murder? Or is my mind just dark/gutter? And -- Why does she have to marry #RightBefore she is of age? Like if she was of age, would she have been able to make the will work? 2mo
BarkingMadRead @ElizaMarie that‘s exactly what I thought! He‘s twice her age, obviously he will be the first to go, unless…. 2mo
mcctrish The fact he wants to marry her before she‘s 21 is a red flag! Wait 3 months and she can do her own will without that stupid #unclesmellingsalts having any say! Also Aunt Eleanor and her Count were giving me brief Udolpho vibes #iykyk 🤣🤣 she needs to put Marian in a legal document #percypig is going to run her out of town aka #lockherup 2mo
Bklover @mcctrish Next thing you know Marian will suddenly be in an asylum. Soon following will be Laura. #percypigisanass 2mo
Bookwormjillk I felt like Uncle Crabby in his room yesterday. Every time I tried to read this section someone would talk to me. My nerves! All caught up now and you all said what I was thinking. I‘m loving reading about the same events from different points of view. 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly I appreciate how Collins drums in that Percy is a jerk and not to be trusted. As though we didn‘t all hate him already, the dog can‘t stand him. Dogs know! Do you think Collins was getting paid by the word like Dickens? That last section was a whole lot of words to say “he gets all her money if she dies first” 😂 And even if he doesn‘t have nefarious plans… this book is still in a high maternal mortality era. 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly @mcctrish Udolpho vibes yes 😂 2mo
mcctrish @Clare-Dragonfly I love our ‘inside vibes‘ connections #bestgroupever #trustthedog 2mo
BarkingMadRead @Clare-Dragonfly 💯 Gilmore was like, let me just explain this last bit real quick, and then it took like 5 pages. Sir. 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly I forgot to mention, I have serious doubts that uneducated Mrs. Catherick really wrote that “yeah Percy is cool with me” letter. 😒 I wish we were reading this more slowly—so much happens in each day‘s section that I can‘t remember it all, let alone have time to discuss it! 2mo
julieclair Whew! Lots going on 2mo
julieclair #trustthedog for sure. And what's with #unclesmellingsalts allowing this ridiculous inheritance business? 2mo
Leftcoastzen Always #trustthedog could Gilmore make it any more obvious to #unclesmellingsalts ? Lost in his own little world to the perils of his family 2mo

Reasons given for the acceptable practice of initiating new men into the military using homosexual sex acts. I‘m really going to need them to show their work on that second one. The other two make no sense either, but that one is extra special.
