I have read very little about Italy during WWII so reading about how the Catholic Church helped protect and hide the Italian Jews was thought provoking and inspiring. The story of Eva and Angelo was beautiful and heartbreaking and insightful all at once. This is definitely going on my list of favorites and everyone should read this book! ❤️

pickSome of the chapters were hard to follow at first. I didn't have any idea anything like this had actually happened. Interesting and horrific. The details of torture were stomach turning and the grief felt so real. I'm going to need some fluff read after this.

pickExcellent bit of history, told through the compelling personal stories of 4 women during the Civil War. These women took incredible risks for their beliefs. A great read full of suspicion, imprisonment, battle scars, broken limbs, spy circles, secret codes, undercover missions, secret rooms, not to mention early accounts of medicine & spy craft that will make you very glad you didn't need a doctor & some hints if you ever need to encode a message.
