Quiet story about an Irish immigrant questioning where she belongs; where is her home? Does she belong in familiar Ireland or in her new life & opportunities in America? I enjoyed this book, especially the writing style, even though I had trouble feeling and staying connected to the main character. #LitsyAtoZ:T #LitsyReadingChallenge #LitsyRC7

Anyone else going to read The Zookeeper this month to see the movie?

Mindyrecycles I'll definitely read it this year but don't think I'll get to it this month. 😕 8y

Fantastic! Naila's parents made me angry. The marriage she was literally forced into (yes, force) broke my heart. Her loss of choice and voice changed her life in ways that I take for granted daily. I think that is one way in which this book is so powerful: it offers a perspective that so many of us never get to see.

I loved the glimpse into Pakistani culture, as Naila's family are immigrants.

intothehallofbooks This is YA, but I would love to read something similar to this in adult fiction so it could be expanded a little bit. 😉 8y
HittingOnGirls I am really enjoying your Litsy updates. I should have started using this app sooner. I like it more than Goodreads. 8y
ReadingsByTheC I've been wanting to read this one but am worried it will be too heartbreaking. 8y

intothehallofbooks @ReadingsByTheC It is indeed heartbreaking in several places. You will definitely feel things. But I forgot to mention that it ends on a hopeful note! I can't believe I forgot that part. Hopeful ending! I'd love to know what you think if you do decide to read. 8y
intothehallofbooks @HittingOnGirls Hey friend! I'm so happy you like it here. Welcome! 8y
Laura317 Sounds intriguing. We have Pakistani family friends - I'm glad they don't do forced marriages for their children. 8y
[DELETED] 206653737 Yet another book that sounds good 📚I've stacked! Beautiful cover as well. 8y
intothehallofbooks @Laura317 I'm so glad too! I have to admit that I didn't really understand the differences between arranged vs forced marriage. The author is Pakistani-American. She had an arranged marriage that she agreed to and is very happy in it. It's just a very interesting story that is far outside of what I know. 8y
intothehallofbooks @bookish22 It really is very good! I hope you pick it up sometime 😊 And I agree, the cover is so very lovely! 8y

"...You can choose what you want to be when you grow up, the types of shoes you want to buy, how long you want your hair to be. But your husband, that's different. We choose your husband for you. You understand that, right?"

Happy birthday to Sandra Cisneros! To celebrate, we recommend picking up her most recent book, a collection of nonfiction essays that, together, form a memoir of her life and lived experiences. It's full of Cisneros' signature wisdom and grace & is a great peek into her life as a Latina woman in the US, issues of economic inequality, cultural critique, & overcoming misogyny with female identity & sexuality. 🙌🏽
