The Golden Hall of Meduseld in Rohan.

IRL it‘s probably Edinburgh Castle.

It‘s been a long time since I read the books but this one made me want to dive back into them. There were things I didn‘t know about them or Tolkien until reading this book. It takes you into the mythology and history that inspired these stories, and gives some information about Tolkien himself. Loved it.

Today‘s #threelistthursday / #TLT assignment is three movie soundtracks you love. I don‘t have patience to fiddle with Pic Collage today, so here‘s a gratuitous picture of Eomer. 😍

My choices
1. The Return of the King (Howard Shore)
2. Gettysburg (Randy Edelman)
3. The Boys Are Back (Sigur Ros)

Honorable mention because it‘s not technically a soundtrack: Songs from District 12 (various) (Hunger Games)

dabbe F😍B choices! And thanks for the gratuitous Eomer pic! 🔥 Thanks for playing and sharing! 🖤🎶🖤 1mo

Reggie I am such an an ungrateful son but back in 2005-6 all I asked for Xmas was the soundtrack to The Two Towers and even specified make sure it‘s from the 2nd one. I got the Fellowship of the Ring and was pissed. I still smiled and said thank you. lol 1mo

Wow! I loved reading this ending- or beginning because there are still pages for Sam to write. 😭This was my favorite by far and I‘m so glad I finally got around to reading this trilogy. Gave me all the feels. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oooh this second book was great! You can tell we are building up to something epic. I loved the Frodo, Sam and Gollum chapters the best. Even though I know how it ends, it still feels new. Although of course I am still picturing Elijah and Viggo! 😉 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Leniverse Viggo looks the part, but I am still mad about the changes the movies made to his character. And this is a hill I will die on 😂 2mo
Meshell1313 @Leniverse yes- I noticed they really changed a lot of Aragon! I‘m curious to see the ending! 2mo
Martyn_J_Pass @Leniverse Amen!!! I hated the changes Jackson made to the essence of the characters themselves. Aragorn as the doubting heir to the throne ruined the story for me. Even the subtle changes from Gandalf wishing to go into Moria and advising Theoden to seek safety in helms deep irked me. But I am a Tolkien nerd lol. 2mo
Leniverse @Martyn_J_Pass I came close to walking out of the movie theatre on several occasions, but at least I wasn't as bad as a friend's uncle who stood up and yelled "There were no elves at the battle of Helm's Deep!" ? 2mo
Martyn_J_Pass @Leniverse I can respect that man ha ha ha 2mo

I feel very mixed on this one. I enjoyed the action for sure, but I was not a fan of Frodo and Sam‘s chapters. I just never felt attached to them and disliked Gollum lol. I also felt like the last chapter, and the last line, were very anticlimactic and lacking emotional depth. I think I just missed the dwarves too much from the Hobbit. Overall, loved lotr, but I don‘t think this was my fav. Excited to start The Silmarillion next!

Another great #TBRtarot pick! I still can‘t believe I never read these! I love all things Fantasy so I know it is a must! I absolutely adored this one and can‘t wait to dive into the next one! I found myself picturing the cast from the movie the whole time reading it though-is that normal? 😂 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

AnnCrystal Totally normal...if there's no movie, then I select my own cast for the characters 😉👍🏼📚🎬💝...I really must read these books one day. 3mo
CBee I read it way before the movies came out but I admit I would‘ve loved to have faces to put to the characters 😊 3mo
Clare-Dragonfly I definitely have the last couple times I reread this series! I love both the books and the movies so much. 💕 3mo

dabbe @bellabella Ooh, excellent question! Even though Samwise Gamgee is considered the sidekick to Frodo's bigger quest, Sam's quest is the purest of heart--to just be there for Frodo--no matter what. And without Sam, the ring could not have been destroyed. He's my favorite character in the series! 💚💜💚 3mo
bellabella @dabbe My dad cries every time he sees the scene with Sam running after Frodo in the boat and almost drowning. There should be a dictionary with his face under the entry “Loyalty“ 💕 3mo
dabbe @bellabella For sure, he's the hero, but he is mainly THE. BEST. SIDEKICK. EVER. “I can't carry it for you. But I can carry you!“ 😭💚😭

P.S. My other favorite sidekick is Joe from GREAT EXPECTATIONS. “Ever the best of friends, ain't us, Pip?“ 😭💚😭

Finished the LotR trilogy, starting the Silmarillion & v excited for the critical theory I‘ve chosen to pair with it. Also mad about not having all the books I want to read on audiobook ho hum

This book was lovely— a lot of excellent moral readings BUT I wanted more nuance. Still, delightful. Looking for a close reading involving Tolkien‘s other works & specifically an analysis of “the scouring of the shire”
