Another stellar entry in the series. While I'm gleeful to continue on to see how various characters develop further in the next book, I'm also relieved to have certain answers and see certain arcs completed in this one.
As I've come to expect, there are bonkers happenings, heartbreakingly human moments, and some damn creepy shit. 1/?

Robotswithpersonality 2/? A who's who of supernatural beings and conspiracy theory fodder, and moments where giggling hysterically is the only appropriate response.
No sooner did my mind begin drawing certain Thursday Murder Club vibes comparisons than the author made Osman the subject of a 'theory'. 😆
I think if you love both Terry Pratchett and Richard Osman, you should give this series a try.

Robotswithpersonality 3/? I sincerely hope we see Betty again, and loved seeing more of Harnforth. Did not realize I wanted that direction for Stanley, but it adds to my satisfied grinning.
I was concerned the somewhat split narrative would take away from the group dynamic, but there's definitely still smaller group clusters of chaos running about the place, and the earlier segmentation of the team makes the end even better.
5d
Robotswithpersonality 4/4 I am certainly going to follow up on the author's announced existence of a podcast with Stranger Times stories, and a newsletter subscription resulting in free short stories in the same universe, as it will make the wait until I can get the next book via interlibrary loan easier to bear.

Discworld cameo? 🦆

BkClubCare I swear, the word “nonplussed” is everywhere! This is like the 4th time I‘ve encountered it. The third was about 4 pages ago in my current read! 😊 1w
willaful And usually used incorrectly. 😒 1w
Ruthiella @willaful I‘ve read that nonplussed can mean both “confused” and “unimpressed”. I always used it in the second way. I only recently learned it could mean or originally meant perplexed. 1w

I‘m loving the second in the The Stranger Times series on audio. This time around the gang at the paper is dealing with vampires, which definitely DON‘T exist!
Brendan McDonald is delightful and hilarious as ever as the narrator. It‘s hard to believe that someone could come up with as many distinct voices for so many characters as he does.

julesG The audiobooks are chef's kiss. The narration is done so well. 3mo
AlaMich @julesG Yay!! Finally I find someone else who has listened to these! I thought I was the only one who had discovered them. 3mo
wanderinglynn Ooh, this looks good. 👍🏻 And I need a new audiobook. 3mo

wanderinglynn Okay, I just downloaded the first book. Thanks for the rec! 3mo
AlaMich @wanderinglynn That‘s great! I hope you‘ll like it! (edited) 3mo
Fr3NcHtOaSt When I saw this post I instantly thought of The Smiths song of the same name. Wonder if this has anything to do with that? 3mo
AlaMich @Fr3NcHtOaSt I thought of that too. And the other titles seem like song titles as well: Love Will Tear Us Apart (Captain and Tenille, “Love will Keep Us Together”) and Relight My Fire (Take That). 3mo
Fr3NcHtOaSt @AlaMich I think I‘ll have to check this series out. Sounds great 3mo
AlaMich @Fr3NcHtOaSt The series is a ton of fun. Hope you enjoy! 3mo

Next non fiction read . . . Hopefully won't take me a year to finish this time.

I loved this book. It made me feel nostalgic and homesick for the place I actually live and work in, which is no mean feat!
Maconie is unashamedly prejudiced about his love for the North, but his humour and "warts and all" approach saves him from being bigoted or boorish.
I spent the middle third of my life as an economic migrant to The South, which has many attractions, but home is where the pies and gravy are ??? and coming home is a ⬇️

Bookwomble ... decision we've never regretted.
I was surprised by how bookish Stuart is, and his references to his literary favourites was endearing. He also has me hankering for a quiet pub corner where I can nurse a pint for an hour over a book, though in reality I usually find pubs too noisy and distracting an environment, so, again, a testament to his ability to evoke a mood.
A delightful surprise of a 5⭐ read.

"The rivalry between Liverpool & Manchester is...a vendetta, a blood feud that's Sicilian in intensity, contemptuous at best, raw visceral hatred at worst, each always out for vengeance & reparation...The malice & ill-will borne by fans of Liverpool & Manchester United's football teams outweighs by far that felt by either team for their traditional rivals across the city."
Followed by examples of appalling impoliteness. I don't get football ?‍♂️

Bookwomble With apologies to the majority of football fans who I'm sure are less vehement and aggressive in their passion 😊 9mo

Bookwomble @bibliothecarivs Yeah, don't look at the hands too closely, and the limbs don't always quite start and end where they should. A lot of the AI images are off just enough to enter the Uncanny Valley and give the heebee-geebies 🥶 9mo
