“I and Pangur do each our task, and share our peaceful days.“

Join a thoughtful monk and his white cat, Pangur, as they spend their days doing what they love most. The White Cat and the Monk is a warm story about friendship and finding joy in everyday routines.

This story celebrates friendship and doing what you love. Jo Ellen Bogart‘s retelling of an old Irish poem captures the peaceful life of a monk and his white cat, Pangur, who happily spend their days side by side

Plenty here to enjoy, historical Victorian murder mystery with a subtext commentary on the British class system and emerging feminism. However I found that it stumbled over itself with too much repetitive navel gazing and no real loveable characters. Great twist to the mystery on conclusion but I doubt I‘ll ever pick up the next book in the series.

wanderinglynn So glad to hear that you liked it. I just got it and the sequel! 2y
MsRadioSilence @wanderinglynn I‘m reading the sequel at work! I think I‘m gonna try and find it on thriftbooks, tho, bc $20 is just a looot to spent on a novella (edited) 2y

Lunch break with Mr Monk and the Secret Santa, a terrible picture of my mug and organizing #wintergames2021 notes so that I actually know what I‘m trying to do 😅❄️

The story itself is a pick. I love Monk and Nurse Hester, and since she‘s now moved into a lead role, I get to count it for #Booked2021. The mystery good with a twist I didn‘t remember. The audiobook however gets a major pan for an error in the recording (see my previous post). So - read it, but read it in print. #COVIDHeroes #NurseMC

Cinfhen Great review and how nice to check off a prompt too❤️sorry about the poor recording 😡 4y

Has anyone else ever had an audiobook where the recording was out of order? I‘m 75% done and it‘s clear that it‘s now skipping around. I don‘t know if it‘s a Hoopla thing or if it‘s a defective recording by Recorded Books. 🥺 Glad this is a reread and a library book. I think I‘d be mad if I paid for it.

Mitch That‘s so annoying! I‘d be tempted to think I‘d dowsed off and lost the plot! 4y
DGRachel @Mitch Right? It‘s bouncing all over the place now, but thankfully (?) the events happening make it very clear that things are out of order. Someone gets fired, then the events that causes the firing happens, then someone comes to help them after they‘re fired, then more of what happened before the firing. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 4y
DGRachel But it‘s obviously not flashback. 4y
Mitch @DGRachel very post modern ! 🧐 4y

The story is a slower build than Perry‘s early Pitt novels, but I have always preferred the Monk series. In this first novel, Monk awakens with amnesia following an accident, & must not only solve the case he was working on prior to his accident, but piece together his identity, while trying to conceal the truth of his amnesia from his boss. It‘s an intricate mystery with great characters & Davina Porter is one of my favorite audiobook narrators.

KCofKaysville I quite liked it when I read it several years ago. It was my only Anne Perry. @DGRachel. 4y

I love the Spin the Wheel app for when I just can‘t make a decision. I‘m going to start my audiobook reread of this Inspector Monk book. It seems like a billion years ago that I read it the first time (in reality, more like 20 or so, but still). 💖 It should be good background noise while I work. (And yes, I was lazy and only put in a keyword for my options. 😂)

Megabooks I love spin the wheel too! 4y
