Taking the day off today and going through books that have come back to me recently, reading all the great comments from everyone and remembering what a great book this was.

I hope we can plan again for a #NForNonfiction2020 reboot, trilogy, sequel, etc.😉

You ladies always pick the best books that I didn‘t even know I really really needed to read!

Gezemice What‘s the nonfiction group? I enjoy my nonfiction, although I would avoid politics... 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice It was part of a Litsy Postal Mark Up group. We signed up to the nonfiction group, each picked one book, underlined and commented on it, and then mailed it onto the next person in a circle. This was my pick coming back to me with everyone‘s notes and comments inside. 5y
Gezemice That sounds really cool. Writing in the book is a bit of a funny feeling for me though... and I would never mail a thing, lol, I am the least reliable for such a thing. But it does look like loads of fun! I am glad you are enjoying it. 5y

A challenging read at times, with both deep analytical analysis & a tough subject matter, dissecting what is going on behind the scenes in our society and identifying the core of “toxic masculinity”. In less than 451 words, they feel entitled to women‘s emotional/moral work due to the patriarchal system & history of our society & when they feel we renege, that‘s when they feel justified to punish (demean, guilt-trip, gaslight, etc). A Must Read!

KT1432 This sounds outstanding! 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @lele1432 It really is! I definitely recommend it! 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Great review! I can‘t wait to read everyone‘s comments. I also can‘t believe we‘re already at month four. 5y

Finished this over lunch today; will drop it in the mail tomorrow. What a powerful read. My only complaint is that it‘s such a dense read - which I loved (I enjoyed the depth of the near-academic format) but there are a number of people I know would enjoy the themes and concepts but that would find the format inaccessible. @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage @tjwill #NForNonfictionRidesAgain

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I know what you mean, there almost needs to be a lite version of a lot of great but dense books for wider circulation. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Definitely a good point, @daniwithtea — maybe articles featuring the author would be a good “lite” version. 6y

daniwithtea @Riveted_Reader_Melissa agreed. I can‘t see any better way to present this one in particular, though - everything seemed so important in building her case. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage @daniwithtea maybe this is a calling, we should start a cliffnotes like lite version of a bunch of great reads. 6y
daniwithtea @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage ha ha ha “N For NonFiction Lite”? 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @daniwithtea That‘d make a great name 😂 (edited) 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I just want to let you know the book arrived here safely today! Thank you. 5y
daniwithtea @Riveted_Reader_Melissa wow, that took a while! Glad it made it safely. 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @daniwithtea I know, we mail them the same distance each time and yet sometimes they arrive much faster than others🤷‍♀️ 5y
daniwithtea @Riveted_Reader_Melissa maybe the post office likes to keep us on our toes 🙂 5y

What a great book that I didn‘t even know I needed to read, so glad it came my way. It‘s an excellent view into the life of 1 medical student on her journey to becoming a doctor and all the many pitfalls of the process and our American system of healthcare that became abundantly clear along the way. A great read for at this time and place as we once again fight out the idea of equal rights to quality healthcare for all of our citizens.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa #NForNonfictionRidesAgain I mailed this one out to you this afternoon @tjwill 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Also my 3rd book for #14Books14Weeks with @TheHeartlandBookFairy Yes, I‘m a few weeks behind already, I‘ll try to do some catching up this weekend.🤣 6y

BarbaraTheBibliophage I have this one on my Kindle shelf, but it'll be better to read it with the group's comments! Glad you liked it. 6y

tjwill @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Thanks! I‘m a bit behind but should be finished with yours in the next few days to pass along to @BarbaraTheBibliophage. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @tjwill No problem, some of these were a bit longer than others, and some a bit denser than anticipated. 6y

Caroline2 Cor...how sad is that!!! 😔 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage 💔 Alternately heartbreaking and angry making. I'm reading an ARC for a recently-published book you might also like. As an aging person and also caregiver, it's been really eye opening. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘ll definitely look it up! 6y

I looked it up and took the test, they also have ones for race, skin tone, religion, sexuality, etc. Very interesting! I‘m going to take a few of the other ones too. I started with skin tone test and got a “slight” preference.

BookNAround My son took this in a college class and amazingly enough came back as perfectly neutral on all tested biases. I‘m taking that as a parenting win even though I know it probably has less to do with me than with his friends and other life experiences. 6y
cathysaid Wow. I took the gender test and apparently I should lose my Feminist card. 😔 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @cathysaid But at least if we know it‘s an issue it‘s something we can work on. (edited) 6y
MicheleinPhilly Oh thank you for the reminder! I saw this recently on United Shades of America and wanted to take it. 6y

A solid 4 stars for me. Headed your way, @Riveted_Reader_Melissa - a little early because I‘m out of town at the end of the month. Enjoy! @tjwill @BarbaraTheBibliophage #nfornonfictionridesagain
