Guess Who, Haiku | Deanna Caswell
post image

My favorite coworker at the library, who has also worked as a nature educator, created a haiku challenge for #NationalPoetryMonth. She‘s provided photo inspiration (complete with ID). I chose the pictured and tried my hand:

Delicate flower
I am not. Instead, call me
a sensitive fern.

If this is the kind of nerdy wordiness that appeals to you, I‘m sure she‘d be thrilled to have more entries!

Bookwormjillk I love it! 3w
monalyisha @Bookwormjillk The more I learned about sensitive ferns, the more I felt correct in my assertion: e.g. “The name comes from its sensitivity to frost, the fronds dying quickly when first touched by it.” Girl, same. 😂🥶😅 3w

DebinHawaii Brilliant! 🌿💚🌿 I often joke that I am a “delicate blossom” but now I will say sensitive fern instead! 😉🤣 3w
monalyisha @DebinHawaii I was so tickled (and pleased) to learn its name! 3w

I've been reading and sharing a poem a day in my Instagram stories for #nationalpoetrymonth. It's been fun to reread some favorite poets and discover some new ones. Doireann Ní Ghríofa is one those I was introduced to. I'm now savoring a reread of her book, Lies. Also found an interesting interview with her from a couple years ago: https://www.theparisreview.org/blog/2021/06/02/history-is-the-throbbing-pulse-an...

@Andrew65 Thank you so much for hosting #AwesomeApril! I haven‘t been great about posting, and I did read other things this week, but I successfully used the Readathon as motivation to jumpstart my poetry reading during #nationalpoetrymonth which had been seriously lagging even though it makes up a big chunk of my April TBR.

Andrew65 Brilliant Well done 👏👏👏 12mo

I'm not good with poetry. My brain rarely has the patience for it. But I do want to improve and Poetry in America is one of my favorite ways to do that. For #NationalPoetryMonth you can stream all episodes for free at https://www.poetryinamerica.org/tv-series/. If you subscribe all seasons are available on PBS Passport also. And LitHub announced this PiA marathon screening on the World channel, if you have access to that.

Happy Poetry Month!

Love: Ten Poems | Pablo Neruda

National Poetry Month: Day 29! 📖❤

Out of the Neruda poems that I've read, this has always been my favorite. In fact I've even used it in a couple different fan fiction stories that I've written in the past! Don't even ask. It's just as cringey as it sounds! 🙊🙈😂
