#100EssentialBooks

This was one I read to literally scratch off my reading bucket list. I also willingly admit that I read a version translated into modern English. Pretty good story about a man who would be king so badly that he gets caught up in murderous plot that he can‘t get back out of.

DGRachel @vivastory Thanks! It‘s my favorite Shakespeare play, but not my favorite opera. I‘m not familiar enough with Verdi‘s other works to know if I just didn‘t care for his adaptation of the play or I don‘t care for his style at all. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 4mo

Like Hamlet & Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth has permeated Western culture in myriad ways. Worth reading for the raw poetry & linguistic vibrancy of the lines we all know, & many more that are unfamiliar but equally memorable. Plus, with his trademark psychological insight, Shakespeare tackles numerous themes. Also, Lady Macbeth is now officially one of my favorite villains.

AbhisekBasu Lady Macbeth is one of the major inspirations for most of the female antagonists that you see these days. 7mo

Update on my Lady Macbeth paper (since all of you were so incredibly encouraging as I struggled through it): I got a 95%! I'm starting to wonder if having a drink before I write something makes me a better writer. 🤔 I swear I don't drink very much, but I see results when I do. Is that why so many great writers are alcoholics? 😂

I also thought this would be a good time to show off this book. All of the pictures are made from laser cut paper. 😍

You guys, I have one final left. That's all. Just one. And it's a 5,000 word essay on Lady Macbeth, and I just. Cannot. Bring. Myself. To do it. 😩

I'm at like 700 words and I'm out of stuff to say. Instead of writing, I've read 2 books, cleaned the house, calculated what my grade would be if I didn't do it, decided I had to do it, walked Winston, and now I'm beating my head against a wall.

I have nothing against Macbeth, I'm just burnt out. 😅

Krinak I‘m such a procrastinator that I do the same thing every time! I hate writing papers 😩 10mo

Branwen You got this! 🤗💕 I know you can do it! This is how I get through evil papers like that; I reward myself with a few chapters of an awesome book every 1000 words! It really works! 😁👍 10mo

Dragon I wrote a high school essay saying Lady Macbeth got a bad wrap etc my teacher hated it. After that I just wrote what he wanted to hear and got excellent grades. Your professor sounds much fairer so I know your essay will get a good mark. 10mo
Rachel.Rencher @Branwen Ooh I love that idea! Thank you 🤗❤ 10mo
Rachel.Rencher @Dragon Thanks for the encouragement 😊 I was barred from analyzing her personality anymore as we've literally done three essays on that already. This one is a historical look at how she compared to women of her time and it's just boring 😜 And I just have senioritis 10mo

CarolynM Hang in there.🤗 10mo
Buechersuechtling @Rachel.Rencher “This one is a historical look at how she [is, behaves] compared to women of her time” – I completely feel you. But I keep my fingers crossed for you‼️🤞🏼 Let us know how it all went. 🤗 10mo

Lcsmcat @GingerAntics It‘s a group of legal professionals who support the Shakespeare Theatre Company in DC called the Bard Association. They do this 2x a year as a fundraiser. 13mo
GingerAntics It‘s a brilliant idea. It probably helps people connect with the plays in a way they wouldn‘t otherwise. I‘ve watched the first few minutes of the Twelfth Night one, but I really need to watch the whole thing. Maybe since I‘ve already finished, the time I would have used to finish the play on Monday can be to watch the bard association. Love that title, too. 13mo

readinginthedark This would be genius while teaching Shakespeare, as well! I can't believe I've never come across them before now! 13mo
Lcsmcat @readinginthedark For Macbeth it‘s the Weird Sisters, who are appealing their convictions of aiding and abetting in the murder of Duncan. You have to know the plays to get some of the jokes, know politics and current events to get others, and some are pure pop culture. It would be an excellent cross-disciplinary activity for English and Civics, or Drama and History. 13mo

For my class this term our final assignment is to write an adaptation of a Shakespeare work so I‘m writing Macbeth from Lady Macbeth‘s POV in a semi-suicide note/diary entry style and, man, it is draining trying to be power-hungry, mad, and horrible while also trying to showcase a female character who is ultimately really, really sad.
