#NeverAgainResearchRead
This is a repost. I would like to take this opportunity to say that I know there are a lot of people who disagree with this book & with reading this book. I implore you to understand that I am not reading this book to promote propaganda of any kind. I am reading this book with a love for history and a quest for greater knowledge in my heart. I in no way condone Adolf Hitler in any way. I am simply seeking to understand. ⬇️

BeansPage I would also like to apologize to those of you who think that I was being snide or flippant in my remarks. They were not meant to be so. Those of you who come to me in the spirit of understanding instead of blame and hatred will be met with polite conversation and better understanding. Thank you all so very much. And I look forward to this read. 6y
wanderinglynn What we don‘t understand, we are doomed to repeat.👍🏻 6y
Crazeedi @TheReadingMermaid you're correct to believe its important to read the things that have prompted evil, how else are we able to see it when it comes. I believe in more free speech and thought, not less. If we don't stand for rights of people we vehemently disagree with, one day we will be destroyed 6y

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I understand the curiosity with wanting to read this book. And am against censorship. But going forward I hope people will be more sensitive in thier postings about it. We need more empathy in the world. ❤ 6y
SleepyDragon @thereadingmermaid Well said. This should be the end of it. @wanderinglynn Exactly. We cannot erase history, so we should learn from it. 6y
SleepyDragon @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Also hope people are more understanding in their comments and check their behavior. 6y
Texreader Excellent dialog by you and the commenters here. 6y
litenthusiast @TheReadingMermaid I think it is really important to understand history and learn from it. To do so we must read things that are difficult. I'm glad we are doing this as a group. 6y
BeansPage @BookishMarginalia that would be an awesome follow up. Thank you so much for suggesting it! 🤗💕 6y
LapReader This is much more like the Litsy I love. 6y
Graywacke I have a copy, which I might read if I ever get into reading about wwii or Germany or the holocaust etc. I do hide it as I don‘t like looking at it and I have trouble seeing it as anything but poisoned. But we can‘t pretend it wasn‘t written. 6y
Butterfinger I understood your intent with your first post. I hope you did not receive flack from anyone. I wanted to join the other night, I really did. Every time I would type something I got physically ill like I was going to hell or something. I know completely ridiculous. COUNT ME IN. Anger and extreme sadness are normal evocations. I can't promise there won't be a book burning later. #neveragain 6y
Butterfinger But I do promise to not be hateful and rude. 6y
BeansPage @Butterfinger thank you I appreciate that very much 🤗 6y
sixgun I firmly believe that there is no "wrong" literature. The thoughts and ideas may be hateful, untrue, lies, etc, but it is still a narrative and there is something we can learn from it. Information is power. 6y
BeansPage @sixgun yes! That! So much so and with all of my heart that! 6y
Naj With the rise of fascist/semi-fascist governments around the world, I think it's much more important to know the workings of this ideology and learn from past mistakes so as to not repeat them. I'm glad you're reading this. Opposition should also come from a place of knowledge. 6y
tpixie @Crazeedi yes! Well said! 6y
Crazeedi @Naj absolutely 6y
sixgun @Crazeedi I've read books that I morally disagree with, but we're all people. I'm always interested in how a person comes to believe or think the way they do. "If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles." Sun Tzu 6y
Booksnchill This appears to be an intelligent discussion - those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it. I suggest an “also read” 6y
AmyG @Booksnchill Yes, read Night after....for understanding and balance. 6y
BeansPage @Booksnchill @AmyG a very good suggestion. I was not thinking of making it into a series but with so many suggestions I think I might have to. The suggestions that are coming in or just too good to pass up! 😃 6y
CindyMyLifeIsLit I was so disappointed with the reactions to your post. So disappointed to find how socially acceptable it has become to act out when offended, to further the idea that if something offends YOU, it must be shut down. So disappointed that book people, on a book site, could presume to try to force their will on other readers and dictate to them what they can and can‘t read. 6y
CindyMyLifeIsLit I‘m in grad school to be a librarian. From the very first class, we‘re taught to fiercely fight this mindset, that we NEVER allow people to put ANY book off-limits to anyone! Readers are the LAST people who should have to be told this. You don‘t like the book? Just scroll right on by. Don‘t ever—EVER—try to take it away from someone else!! I had to get this off my chest. I honestly had trouble sleeping last night from this! 6y
BeansPage @CindyMyLifeIsLit thank you sweetie I feel the same way that you do. I don't understand why people can't just keep scrolling if they don't like what they see. 6y
jessinikkip I would very much like to join in with this reading. Much the same as after other large events in history, I read about times in the past when these things have happened before. I think that the people who so strongly argue to censor this reading dont realize how very Hitler it is to censor reading... 6y
CindyMyLifeIsLit @jessinikkip Exactly!! Ah, the irony of it all . . . 6y
jessinikkip "It is a quite special secret pleasure how the people around us fail to realize what is really happening to them..." 6y
SleepyDragon The more I thought about it, another thing that really bothered me was that so many repeatedly said that they didn't understand why anyone would want to read it when you can just read other books about it. It didn't occur to any of them that someone might want to read the source material for themselves and draw their own conclusions, just like all those people who wrote those books. Personally, I don't feel the need with this one, but I have ⬇️ 6y
SleepyDragon ⬆️ certainly gone and read source materials to see where the author of whatever book I was reading was coming from. In this particular case, I could see wanting to read Mein Kampf to see for yourself if certain modern political propaganda is as similar as others say it is. 6y
CindyMyLifeIsLit @NeesyBeth It all boils back down to freedom. Everyone gets to choose their reading material for themselves. I have no time to read this, but the whole “I don‘t like this so YOU can‘t do it” is extremely offensive to me. It makes me furiously angry, and I don‘t get angry! How can anyone believe that this group meant to do anything other than try to understand how one terrible person was able to do so much damage to the world is beyond me! ⬇️ 6y
CindyMyLifeIsLit Did anyone really believe that Tamara was trying to form a neo-Nazi group here on Litsy? 🤨 6y
SleepyDragon @CindyMyLifeIsLit That's what a certain someone is saying, and a few agreed with her. 6y
SleepyDragon @CindyMyLifeIsLit I agree with you. I have no desire to read it, but I don't tell others they shouldn't read it either. Every post and comment on the group read was very clear in the purpose and intent of the activity. Some claimed the problem was just the graphic and term "buddy read," but obviously that isn't the case since the instigator is still complaining about it after the changes were made. 6y
CindyMyLifeIsLit @NeesyBeth It‘s yet another example of the disturbing trend in our society that makes it acceptable to try to shut down dissenting opinions. People don‘t realize how their quest to avoid being offended is chipping away at the right to free speech for EVERYONE. They have the right to their opinion and to express it, and that‘s where their rights end. They don‘t have the right to control the actions of anyone else. Okay, rant over! 😁 6y
SleepyDragon @CindyMyLifeIsLit I couldn't agree more! 6y
BeansPage @NeesyBeth @CindyMyLifeIsLit I have flagged the post and the comment made that stated I was a Neo-Nazi as they are now practicing slander of my character which is illegal (to my understanding). Hopefully the Litsy Team will address this soon. This has gone far beyond ridiculous. 6y
SleepyDragon I flagged a couple posts for spreading gossip about you. They seem to think it's justified to trash someone and spread rumors about her just because they disagree and misunderstand one of your posts. Whatevs. I doubt the admins will take any action, but at least they are aware and can monitor the situation should they target you again. Funny enough, they seem to attribute things others say to you. Lol Anyway, I 6y
SleepyDragon ... hope they fix the bug with blocking soon so that they can't spy on us anymore. 6y
monalyisha Have you ever read “White Noise” by Don Delilo? It‘s been awhile so I‘m a little fuzzy... but once upon a time, I liked it so much that I read it twice! The protagonist is a professor of “Hitler Studies” at a liberal arts college. It‘s also the book from which the band “The Airborne Toxic Event” takes its name! 6y
BeansPage @monalyisha no actually I've never heard of it. I have got to read that! Thank you so much. I have stacked it 🤗 6y
monalyisha P.S. Good luck with everything! Sorry this has been so rough. I think it‘s good that you “rebranded”, & I wonder how many people might not make it through the whole book (participants might very well be like, “Welp. I get it. That‘s enough of that!”)... but I think the censorship nonsense is a bit over-the-top. 😕 You‘ve done a lot of good for the community! Hope you know people recognize that. 💖 (edited) 6y
BeansPage @monalyisha thank you so much sweetie I appreciate that. 🤗😘🤗 6y
Readingismyescape I agree with the comments here against censorship and for trying to understand history. And I agree with what @TheReadingMermaid is trying to do. I‘m sorry you had to go through all of this. I don‘t understand how people who get offended think that‘s a could reason to censor what others are allowed to read/say/do. It breaks my heart to see this happening on Litsy. (edited) 6y
