Pickpick

Revealing and incredibly researched and articulate. I had no idea just *how* deeprooted housing segregation really was, even among other civil rights advances, because of government interference and laws on all levels. A great book to read alongside EVICTED by Matthew Desmond and essential reading for US citizens.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ll second all of that! I read this one last year and I‘m still thinking about it. Anytime anyone brings up reparations and how long ago all that was...I think of this book!!!! It was ingrained and institutionalized by the government, why shouldn‘t there be settlements in the favor of people systematically wronged. 3w
parasolofdoom @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I definitely want to give this to anyone who doesn't think institutionalized racism is a thing 3w
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @parasolofdoom Yes! I also recommended it to people who read Evicted, both ended up on my Top 10 of the Decade too #NonFictionEdition 3w
BarbaraTheBibliophage This book was amazing! I really need to read Evicted also. 3w
parasolofdoom @BarbaraTheBibliophage Evicted was incredible, one of my favorite nonfiction books 3w

I am late to the party but wanted to post my #Top10oftheDecade #NonFictionEdition. Although I have always read some nonfiction over there years Litsy has certainly helped broaden my horizons in the this genre. These are the best of the bunch in the last 10 years.

Cinfhen I love seeing everyone‘s picks!! Thanks so much for sharing 🙌🏻❣️I‘ve read a bunch on your list and agree😁 1mo

Here's my #Top10oftheDecade #NonFictionEdition Many of these books changed the way I view the world.

4thhouseontheleft I‘ve read half of these! And the other half are on my TBR. Have you read Just Mercy or The New Jim Crow? Looking at this list, I think you would like both of those. (edited) 1mo
Eggbeater @4thhouseontheleft I haven't read those. I will check them out. Thanks! 1mo

Since I read fiction, nonfiction, ya, and graphic novels, I cheated and picked 10 from each category so I didn't have to narrow down too much. Choosing these was like picking which pet or kid I love more...😂

Here's my #Top10oftheDecade #NonfictionEdition.

Any friends who have not already done this, I'd love to see your picks.

Scochrane26 I didn‘t put the Mister Rogers bio on my list, but I loved it. 1mo
Addison_Reads @Scochrane26 I still want to go watch the Tom Hanks movie too. Have you seen it? 1mo
Scochrane26 @Addison_Reads Yes, I saw it during thanksgiving. It‘s really good but not a bio exactly. The main focus is on a reporter who interviewed mister Rogers & developed a friendship. It had some powerful moments, & Tom Hanks is amazing. 1mo
Crazeedi @Addison_Reads just saw the movie with my girls, my youngest and I had a daily routine of Mr Rogers when she was little. We loved it, lots of good cry moments 1mo

These are my favourite nonfiction in audio format from the past decade. Except for the titles I had to strike because I had too many... #top10ofthedecade #nonfictionedition #audiobookedition

My #top10ofthedecade #nonfictionedition 12, because again, I cheat.

squirrelbrain Great choices! I really want to read 1mo
Emilymdxn Great choices! Evicted and collected schizophrenias are two of my favourite reads of all time. I forgot collected schizophrenias in my list and feel bad now it definitely deserved to be there 1mo
LeahBergen The Brontësaurus and Bookworm. ???? 1mo

Aimeesue @squirrelbrain Evicted is eye-opening, but frustrating and sad. I saw Desmond at the National Book Festival a couple years ago talking about this book, so obviously I had to buy it. No choice, really. 1mo
Aimeesue @Emilymdxn Its a great book! 1mo
Aimeesue @LeahBergen Pretty sure I bought The Brontësaurus because you posted about it! I loved it. 1mo
Megabooks I‘ve read 7/12 and loved all of them! 1mo
Daisey I‘ve listened to a few of these on audio and a few more are on my TBR. Great list! 1mo
Cinfhen 12 does look nicer 😜 1mo
vivastory I love Ronson & I think about "So You've Been Publicly Shamed" often. Great list!! 1mo
Aimeesue @Megabooks Clearly, we have great taste! 1mo
Aimeesue @Daisey IMO, everyone should listen to Born A Crime. Such great narration! 1mo
Aimeesue @Cinfhen Right? Much neater! 1mo
Aimeesue @vivastory Every time Monica Lewinski's name comes up! 1mo
jillrhudy Someone should write “So You've Been Publicly Shamed and Evicted.“ Bound to be happening to people in the current climate, no? 1mo

I couldn‘t quite narrow it down to 10: these are my top dozen nonfiction favourites of the past decade. #top10ofthedecade #nonfictionedition

Centique I‘ve only read H is for Hawk of these. I‘ve screen shot it so I can add some more to my TBR! I really need to up my non fiction in future years. 1mo
Lindy @Centique I sorted Goodreads by rating and still managed to miss some top contenders like Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and Behind the Beautiful Forevers. 🤷‍♀️ 1mo
rethier1 Atul Gawande 😍😍 1mo

Lindy @Cinfhen Your enthusiasm has inspired me to put in the effort. Nonfiction, Graphic Novels, Fiction, and In Translation are now complete. Currently I am working on an audiobook list and a picture book list. 1mo
Lindy @batsy Are you considering compiling some best of the decade lists too? I‘d love to see yours. 1mo
Lindy @Cathythoughts ha! Thanks! 1mo
Lindy @Graywacke 😘 1mo
Cinfhen Yay!!! That‘s fantastic 🙌🏻💜📚 1mo
batsy @Lindy Yes would love to join in the fun but I'm trying to narrow mine down. For nonfic I've gotten it down to 20 😂 1mo
Lindy @batsy Then post your top 20. Why not? The more the merrier. 😁 1mo

I‘ve been think about this for a couple of days & here‘s my #top10ofthedecade #nonfictionedition. I read so many good ones! As always, it was hard to choose. I picked ones I read this decade, I didn‘t care if they were published this decade. Stay tuned for the fiction edition....

Cinfhen I don‘t know why but I‘m MOST INTRIGUED by 1mo
Amandajoy @Cinfhen I bought it on a whim & it was fascinating! I think it started my love of micro histories. 1mo
