Found this memoir by chance while searching for #readyoursign titles on Scribd. The author was born in 1956 and grew up in Maoist China. I have read little about that period, so I learned a lot about everyday Chinese life in the 1960s-70s. What a difficult system to live under. It‘s so hard for a lucky American to imagine the lack of freedom/opportunity- just awful. Pisces prompts 4 & 6 (water in title, water lily on cover). ♓️ #Pisces

I was so not feeling this book. There were times when I liked it and I sort of got into it, and then other parts (most of the book) I just found myself bored. There‘s a lot of books in this series but I don‘t think I‘ll be continuing 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thought this was pretty appropriate for all my fellow #Pisces out there! Or to whoever else this may apply to 💦

This book was great and had me on the edge of my seat! I had so many creepy vibes from Verity, but that ending I definitely did not see coming. Loved every second of this quick and fast paced read!

I‘m seeing some criticism of this book from other reviewers, but I liked this book. I thought the ghost story parts were good and creepy. Yes, one of the murder investigations used a slightly unbelievable coincidence. The other took a turn I really didn‘t see coming, also unbelievable, but in a nightmarish, I-can‘t-believe-this-is-happening way, so it worked for me. I‘ll read more by this author. #readyoursign #pisces prompt #7.

This book hit me harder the second time reading it. Now, I‘m sitting here ugly crying and can‘t stop. Conors story is one that will stay with you forever, and is a good novel to read if you are dealing with grief. All. The. Emotions.
This checked off prompt #13 for #readyoursign challenge!

Sweettartlaura Ohhh, I ugly-cried listening to this 😭😭😭 4y
TheAromaofBooks I've never read a book that so accurately captures the emotions surrounding watching someone you love fade away - this book absolutely slayed me when I read it. 4y
TheQuietQuill So true...I‘m a pretty tough one when it gets me to crying, but this book always does it. It‘s just the amount of emotion that Ness puts into his characters and writing. @TheAromaofBooks 4y

I almost forgot how emotional this book could be. I‘m already finding myself tearing up at Conors pain.

⭐⭐⭐
I have been dismissing this book ever since it came out. Loved the cover, not the dystopian.

I'm glad the sea green #Pisces prompt for the #ReadYourSign challenge sort of forced me into this book. I quite enjoyed it. It's Cinderella meets Hunger Games meets reality TV. It's rather light on the dystopian (at least to me) and heavy on romance.I'd categorize this as romance over dystopian.

3/5 books complete @Clwojick @Meaw_catlady

Sace @Clwojick I guess I owe you ladies a thank you for forcing me out of my reading comfort zone 😁 4y
Ruthiella Every now and again I read a YA title and am delighted 😀. 4y
Sace @Ruthiella this one was a nice surprise. I'm really not a fan of dystopian fiction but this one wasn't overwhelmingly so. It is the first book though so I'm sure things will get darker. 4y

Sager does it again! Every twist and turn had me wanting more, and I‘m a little upset that it‘s over! Now I have to wait a whole other year until he releases a new masterpiece. Dang, I can‘t recommend this enough 😱👻 Also, this checked off prompt number 9 since the father in the story was a creative writer for #readyoursign
