A charming little book intertwining stories about the author's family history of perseverance through challenging times, recipes from her mother and grandmother, and her reflections on her own challenges when she was laid off during an economic recession. I found it heartfelt and lovely. A cozy winter read. This was my January #Bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

I made pyttipanna (or pyttipannu) using the Moomins cookbook 😁: it's fish, potatoes and onions fried together, and served with beetroot, gherkins and a fried egg. Easy comfort food!
(French readers will notice a spelling mistake on the page 🙄)

LiseWorks I'm sorry but fish and eggs shouldn't go together lol 1mo
Kitta Shouldn‘t it be legumes? Not legume I‘m trying to learn French! 1mo
Dilara @LiseWorks LOL I was more worried about the fried egg and pickle combo! (but it was fine 😁) 1mo

Dilara @Kitta That's right. It should be “légumes“, to agree with “aux“ which is a plural article 😁 (edited) 1mo
Kitta @Dilara 😀 I got it right!! 1mo
Adventures_of_a_French_Reader @Dilara J'ai le même livre à la maison ;) Il contient des recettes sympas. 1mo
Dilara @Adventures_of_a_French_Reader Avant que je rende le livre à la bibliothèque, tu as des recettes à me recommander ? 😁 1mo

This book was a great read for me at this time as my mother is her her final hours or days. The suggestions from the mother are pretty good. I don‘t think many people are ready to say goodbye that final time. The feelings of loss are real. They never go away, but they get easier as we accept our new normal. Some of the suggestions actually made me chuckle. However, many of them will be used in the coming days. 4.5/5

Two more recipes crossed off my #Mtcookbook list!

Cincinnati chili is always a hit!

The Korean Fire Chicken was okay, but to be honest I didn‘t follow the broiling instructions. Next time I will because I‘m sure it makes a difference. Also, this brand of gochujang is a tad too sweet for my taste.

mabell Yum Cincinnati Chili! Haven‘t made that for years! We always use the Joy of Cooking recipe 2mo
Tamra @mabell you should make it this winter! I usually make it once or twice a year. 2mo

What's in the Garden? | Marianne Berkes
Pickpick

What's in the Garden by Marianne Berkes (2013) is a nonfiction rhyming book that talks about all the different foods that can be grown in a garden. It also gives recipes that you can make with the ingredients from your garden! It has detailed and realistic images of children with the food they picked from the garden. This is a really good book for younger kids to learn about plants, gardening, and how food is grown!
