Jess7 I definitely think racial profiling impacted this traffic stop and Officer 115‘s actions. Sadly I think racial profiling occurs every day and I‘m not sure how to fix it, but it‘s not ok. 7y
Jess7 As far as the media coverage of the incident, I think the media likes to sensationalize incidents for ratings and sometimes their coverage can be irresponsible for the sake of ratings. @MinDea 7y
MinDea Yes, I have been personally affected with racial profiling and know several people who have as well. I definitely think that the cop racially profiled Khalil and Starr during the traffic stop and now that the media is calling him a thug and drug dealer they are perpetuating the problem of racial profiling. 7y

MinDea Totally agree with you @Jess7 about sensationalizing stories and they should be held accountable for things that happen due to their coverage. 7y
Jess7 I definitely think I receive the benefit of the doubt from officers as a white woman. I wish that people of all color were treated the same way, but unfortunately #drivingwhileblack is a real issue in this country, especially for black men. It is absolutely NOT okay. 7y
Suelizbeth @Jess7 @MinDea I agree with you that they were racially profiled and that One Fifteen had already decided that they were guilty of something and therefore feels justified in his actions and the media fuels the public‘s reaction to the incident so there seems to be little hope of justice for Khalil. Working at a university, I have become hyper aware of the micro aggressions, and worse, that occur on campus, to students, faculty, and staff. 7y
Suelizbeth @Jess7 @MinDea I ran out of room in my previous comment. The university conducts classes and seminars for the entire campus community that address racism and micro aggressions. If nothing else, it makes all of us aware of the things that we say and how we say them and opens our eyes and ears to the occurrences of these acts. I try to carry this from the university out into the rest of my world. 7y
mrp27 Racial profiling definitely affected what happened. Like @mindea I've sadly witnessed it in my life and I also agree that the media and harmful stereotypes perpetuate the problem. 7y
ptkpepe98 It happened, and sadly, will continue to happen unless we can change the status quo all the way around. Police need to become part of the communities they patrol, and they need to police themselves. We need to do the same as citizens, instead of choosing not to get involved or victim blaming (she was asking for it, he was drunk), absolving bad actors. At the end of the day, did Khalil deserve to die for a broken taillight? No. That's it. 7y
