I read this book for a student, and it was an interesting story of personal determination and hard work. There‘s a lot of discussion of basketball, but Willkom was a walk-on player who never actually gets to the point of his playing in a game for Marquette because of his status after a transfer and later choices.

This short book is an interesting perspective on WWII and the Holocaust. The author collected stories from survivors, mostly children at the time, about their pets. As one would expect there are a few happy stories of the pets that survived while waiting for their people to come back home but many sad stories of pets that did not survive. All of them emphasize the bond of love between people and their pets.

tpixie An interesting angle of WWII 2y
tpixie Pets were a big thing with Hurricane Katrina- so it makes sense it was a big thing during WWII also. 2y
JazzFeathers I don't think l could read it... 2y

I read this for a student, and it was a light YA romance with little substance. It made me chuckle a few times, but it was also very predictable.

Reading a few pages on the way to this afternoon‘s quiz bowl matches. This book was recommended by one of my students a while ago and I‘ve promised to finally read it before the end of our season.

JELEIGH I have yet to read this one and it‘s been sitting on my shelf forever 😬😂 2y
persephone1408 Kaz Brekker is probably my favorite character of all time. This duology is definitely worth reading, I think. 2y
Slajaunie I love this one! ❤️💙 2y

Booksarelifeaddict I have this book also! Do you know if I have to read the shadow of bone series first? 2y
Daisey @JELEIGH @persephone1408 @Slajaunie I‘m really enjoying it so far!! @Booksarelifeaddict I don‘t believe so, at least, I have not read those first. 2y
persephone1408 @Booksarelifeaddict its a different story...in the same universe. So you don't actually have to read shadow and bone. But I would recommend that t 2y
persephone1408 @Booksarelifeaddict that you read shadow and bone and six of crows before you read the Nikolai Lantsov books (king of scars) because they start to mix. 2y

Sometimes I read books just to discuss with students or to write quizzes so they can get AR credit. That is the only reason I finished this YA horror novel. It includes a stereotypical teenage girl group with negative peer pressure, twisted religious views, minimal character development, and excessive violence. I really hope the student does not want to continue the series.

LibrarianRyan I felt the same way. I own the rest of the series but have no intentions of finishing it. I can not see what so many love about this books. 2y
Daisey @LibrarianRyan I really don‘t get it. Think I‘m going to recommend Anna Dressed in Blood and maybe some April Henry. If you‘ve got other great recommendations for this genre, I‘d be happy to pass some along as this is an often reluctant reader. (edited) 2y
LibrarianRyan @Daisey I was not super impressed with Anna Dressed in blood but it was better than Merciless. Try the #Murdertrending series. Also Clown in a Cornfield. I just started Taking of Jake Livingston and am loving it. These are all YA but if you need Mg let me know. I also have more suggestions but Jake is short and so is Clown. #MT has various forms do like chat rooms, chapter sections etc. I always have more but these are nice foe RR. 2y
Daisey @LibrarianRyan Thanks! I‘ll look to see if some of these are available as I make recommendations. 2y

Reading a few pages on the bus while on the way to a quiz bowl match. This book looks pretty rough, but like many of my class library books, that‘s a sign it‘s been enjoyed by some readers that are harder to please. I‘m just getting started but I‘m looking forward to this story of kids in a hurricane on the Alabama coast.

Nebklvr I like Watt Key. I have read a couple of his books 3y
Daisey I've enjoyed a few of his books as well, and they often appeal to my rural students. I'm actually reading this one now because the student I recommended it to based on the author insisted I read it myself because she liked it so much. #StudentRecommendation (edited) 3y

Had a student come in with one of the short stories in this book. It has officially moved up my TBR list.

Readergrrl I loved teaching with this novel! It brings up the interesting concept of a series of seemingly quasi-related stories intended to be read and absorbed as a whole. 6y
GingerAntics @Readergrrl I first got this book almost 10 years ago and for various reasons I‘ve never actually read it, but I‘ve heard wonderful things about it. 6y
Readergrrl @GingerAntics There is one story that I do find very difficult/impossible to read. It involves a water buffalo calf. I will read that book over and over, but I just can‘t read that story ever again. It is perhaps the best illustration of what rage and grief and frustration can do to a person... I just can‘t. 6y

GingerAntics @Readergrrl Hm, that sounds interesting. It just seems to shuffle higher and higher on the list. 6y
Texreader What do you teach? 6y
Texreader @GingerAntics yes. Do you teach? 6y
GingerAntics @Texreader intermittently, yes. I teach research methods, bridge to college writing, and critical thinking. 6y
Texreader @GingerAntics Sounds awesome! 6y
GingerAntics @texreader the research methods and the critical thinking are more in my wheel house, but I‘ve become a bit of a grammar tyrant since working in the writing Center, so the bridge to college writing isn‘t a stretch. lol 6y

Another student recommended Manga that turned into a really interesting story involving time travel and a murder mystery. The ending definitely makes me want to read more.

Additionally, the junior high student that lent this book to me strongly encouraged me to make a bowl of noodles to eat when I read the book.

Cinfhen Awesome!! 6y
MinDea That bowl of noodles looks yummy! 6y
Daisey @Cinfhen @MinDea It really is fun to have the students recommend books and enjoy them! The noodles were delicious! 6y
