The Little Free Library Book | Margret Aldrich

Does anyone out there have a Little Free Library? Building one at camp is on my son‘s summer bucket list (Officially known as Oliver‘s Mega Ambitious Summer Bucket List).

Any tips/suggestions for us? I‘m extremely crafty, but not in a power-tool kind of way. And this kid wants a canoe or camper shaped box. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Did I mention he‘s an overachiever? No idea where he gets that from. #littlefreelibrary #summerbucketlist

ljuliel I don‘t have one, and am totally clueless on how to build one. One person in here that has one is @Lauredhel . There may be books at your library for how to build a bookcase shaped like a canoe. I looked up canoe shaped bookcases online and they‘re big money 💰 💰. There‘s an audiobook about a guy who builds tin canoes. I don‘t know if listening to that would be helpful, or less expensive or easier. Good luck.

Soubhiville I have a LFL, but I bought it prebuilt. I‘d guess the curving shape of a boat hull is overly ambitious for a first a carpentry project, especially if he wants it watertight. Which it needs to be to protect the books. So if his (and your) heart is set on this, my suggestion would be to cut an actual boat, that way you‘d only have to attach the bottom, shelves, and door. Chrissyreadit I would see if he could work with a local carpenter who would be interested in this project- or possibly reach out to a school or training program for support? Or look at a ready made Canoe and cut it in half as @Soubhiville suggested. I love this project so much! Good for him! 5y
