Bookwomble I'm glad you're finding this better than you expected. That's always a bonus when you're tackling a book you're not sure about when going in. I loved Oliver Twist, and it's an important book culturally, being one of Dickens's works that brought the reality of workhouse poverty into the comfortable homes of the English middle classes. 5y

I don't know why I am doing this to myself, but it has been on the #TBRshelve for ages (and when I say ages, I mean years!!!!) so better get it over and done with.
I liked a Christmas Carol and Great Expectations, so maybe this will not be so bad! #Hopeful

My Family and Other Animals | Gerald Durrell, Jocelyn Potter

I read this book many moons ago as a prescribed book in highschool. A couple of years ago my dad bought a copy at our church "bazaar" and naturally it ended on the #TBRShelve and now its time finally came...only to find that this copy was in fact also a highschool prescribed copy (not my one though). The entire book has notes and scribbles and explanations in Afrikaans and I absolutely love it and I wonder...why was it not handed back? ?????

Samplergal I had a copy of To kill a Mockingbird from the school library for two years. My mom “caught” my long loan and made me return it. Sad day that was. That might be an explanation here. Btw, I loved that book. 5y

Die Uile in die wildtuin. Derde druk | Justus Cornelius DIRKS

Read this from my #tbrshelve over the weekend. (The title does not translate well - The Owls in the Game Reserve). The "Die Uile" series is about a high-school "gang", all boys, who call themselves "The Owls" with secret language and secret signs etc, but al so very very innocent. I read the entire series in Primary school, so it is not hard reading, but I still enjoy it so much!!!! Camaraderie, adventure, frienship, it has it all! (See comments)

GlitterGirl I even had, and I still might have, this huge crush on the "gangleader" - Phillip. He is everything I want in a man. ?☺️ But they were just so brilliant, always standing together, helping each other, never leaving anyone behind. I love these guys and what they stand for so much!!! 5y
