"You have one hour to live."
Those are the only words on the phone call. Then they hang up. Surely, a prank? A mistake? A wrong number? Anything but the chilling truth... That someone is watching, waiting, working to take your life in one hour.
The job of finding out falls to DI Helen Grace: a woman with a track record in hunting killers. However, this is a case where the killer seems to always be one step ahead of the police and the victims

An easy read that satisfies that tickle in your brain that wishes you could go back to a simpler time before adulthood slapped you in the face.

RL Stine was always a go to author for me while growing up, so I had fun digging into the rebooting of his Fear Street series.

This book felt like that campy comfort scary movie that I think we all have.
Reading it just felt like home and it was perfect for the week of spooky season.

What Mother Won‘t Tell Me, by Ivar Leon Menger (2022, transl. 2024)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Premise: A teenager living with her family on a remote lake becomes increasingly convinced that her parents aren‘t telling the truth about their circumstances.

Review: There‘s a lot that this does well: It‘s perfecly atmospheric, I was hooked immediately and the propulsive plot helped me get through it in two short sittings. ⬇️

Mattsbookaday But, as I often find with thrillers, the ending felt rushed and perfunctory and I was left feeling a bit let down.

BarbaraBB The comparison to My Absolute Darling is intriguing. I loved that one although love is not the right word! 1w

Recently moved and finished the first story in this two story collection. Perfect for spooky season. RL Stine will always be a favorite. As always, I was supervised by my best noodle. #fearstreet #rlstine #paperback #thelostgirl #spooky #spookyseason #catsoflitsy #readingbuddy

I've started this book, which I bought at the same time as Inferno. I hope I like it better (see my post of a few days ago).

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Kill For Me, Kill For You” is a mystery thriller with numerous plot twists that gave you surprises up to the very end. This novel was gripping and entertaining, however I‘m still not sure how I liked the ending.

Home Before Night | J. P. Pomare

Set in Melbourne during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, “Home Before Night” is a psychological thriller. Residents are ordered into an 8 p.m. curfew and lockdown. When single mother Lou‘s teenage son fails to return home, her anxiety escalates as his phone goes silent and his social media remains dormant. While this may not be my favorite Pomare novella, it‘s still a compelling story.
