This was a very interesting read. It almost reads like a Jane Austen novel; in that the observances and commentaries of society and classes (in this case the Jewish community in Victorian London) were very similar to Jane Austen. Even though I recognize these similarities, Am Levy is a bit more cynical and blunt through her writing. I enjoyed the main characters and the story, overall. 4 out of 5 stars.

4/5 star. Amy Levy is indeed a Jewish Jane Austen. What a completely correct description of her wit and style. This book was enjoyable from the first page. The tongue in cheek wit and brutal way Levy portrays her characters is marvellous. Over halfway through A Perilous Undertaking and two chapters into Reuben Sachs.
