This short, middle grade true story is an affecting story about genocide, fighting, refugee life, and the importance of water in Sudan. It‘s just the kind of book that reminds kids and adults that life is wholly different in other parts of the world, and that's something we all need every once in a while.

alisiakae I am probably going to listen to the same book for the #genocide prompt. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft It‘s very short but that makes it a good choice for a tough subject. (At least to me, in these difficult times.) (edited) 4y
alisiakae @BarbaraTheBibliophage I also actually just realized my current read, a graphic novel memoir about an artist working with Syrian refugees, also fits the prompt. My brain hasn‘t been firing on all cylinders lately. 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ (edited) 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft Even better! I totally understand the brain stuff. Can‘t say mine is much better ... 4y

An interesting read, especially as we explore new #readingchallenges for the year: https://apple.news/AMJSkPPKBRSiH2vwDC4e-rQ #DiverseReads #WeNeedDiverseReads

Cortg This made me go back and look up the authors I read this year, 25/73 were people of color so that's not bad but there's always room for improvement. I do try to read diverse authors and this article is a good reminder of that. 4y
Clare-Dragonfly I have often thought of challenging myself in that or a similar way. Some year I‘ll actually do it. 4y
writerlibrarian I've tried to read mostly women for the past two years. This past year I chose to read diverse voices. I discovered great writers. (edited) 4y
Amandajoy I read about 60% women. I don‘t track authors of color, but I get a lot of my book recommendations from Book Riot, which leads me to think it‘s not too bad. Maybe that‘s a tracking stat I‘ll add for next year. 4y
MrBook Ooh, this is interesting! 4y

Stayed up too late to finish this book...it's a sliding doors vision of New York City and love and second chances. Also immigration and being first generation kids #botm #weneeddiversereads

I'm in the middle of two great #graphicnovel series with diverse characters on the cover. How to choose which to read next?
