National Poetry Month: Day 25! 📖❤

When I first read this poem by William Carlos Williams, years ago, I thought it was so dumb. I didn't like it's simplicity and what I perceived to be pointlessness. But I'll be damned if it didn't get in my head and wouldn't let me stop thinking about it! Now, it's a favorite of mine! And I think of it every time I'm eating plums, which is one of my favorite summer fruits!

#NationalPoetryMonth

slategreyskies I had a similar reaction when I first heard this. I just didn‘t get it. Now it‘s one of my favorites as well. I can still hear it being read to me by my poetry mentor. He died years ago, but the memory of him reading this poem to one of our classes stays with me as one of my cherished memories. Truly a beautifully sweet poem. 🥰 9mo
Branwen @slategreyskies Awww, what a great association to have with this poem! 💕 9mo

#poetrymonth often mocked & a subject of parody, I still love it for its simplicity. Always makes me smile.

Pickpick

This biography was about William Carlos. William Carlos grew up in New Jersey and he often enjoyed writing Poetry but unfortunately poetry didn't pay much. William Carlos attended medical school were he became a Doctor. He treated many babies and children however, he continued to write his poetry at the end of his busy day.

DrSpalding I really like the idea of using books like this as mentor text and extending the learning by having children write their own poems. Helpful website resource. 2y

BRING BACK THE WHITMAN!!! I‘m not so sure about this poem. It ended, but never really got going. If this is free verse, they can all have it back.
Plus that name! Will Williams. Will Will. Will Squared. Wills. Uncreative parents. Destructive parents? Sheesh.
