#WeeklyFavorites

No doubt about it, this is my favorite read so far in November and it will probably make my best of 2026 list. Really good but be warned, it is extremely sad.

squirrelbrain I have this on audio…. But will I be too upset to listen to it while driving?! 3d
Cathythoughts Must stack so 👍🏻❤️ 3d
BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain I don‘t think so. You can listen to it while driving, it‘s mostly the beginning and the ending that pack a punch 💔 3d

That ending…. 💔 This book is so sad. And somehow hopeful. Corny struggles to come to terms with life in prison after caused a tragedy that tore his family apart. He will spend three years of his life there and is determined to come out a better man. This is the story of a complex man, who has grown on me while I couldn‘t stop reading. Recommended!

Soubhiville

This memoir is mostly about addiction- be it drugs and alcohol, codependency, love and sex, or attention. The author puts it all on the table, so be prepared, it gets ugly. But it‘s also beautiful and touching and gut wrenching.

I could have done without the music between chapters and poems, but I bet it was her girlfriend‘s music, so I understand the inclusion.

I also could have done without all the faith, although I know it is important ⬇️

Soubhiville … part of AA and the 12 step programs. Overall I gave this 4⭐️, and I think if you like her novels you‘ll probably like this. 1w
AmyG Soubhi, I am in MI until 11/23. My daughter was away and just picked up the mail…got your package. Thank you!!! 5d
Soubhiville I wasn‘t sure when you were going to get home. Maybe I should have sent it to MI! Enjoy the remainder of your trip and your extended birthday gifts when you get home! 5d

This novel takes the reader on a journey through multiple aspects of heartbreak, terrible decisions, loss, addiction, trauma, love, friendship and frustration in many ways. My cheeks are still damp from tears as I write these words. I gave it 5/5⭐️

This was so good and just a kick in the gut, over and over. Also sometimes funny. Corby was such a messed up character but good and trying and I rooted for him…
“about a young father named Corby Ledbetter who is sentenced to prison after accidentally causing the death of his son. The story follows his journey through incarceration, where he grapples with tragedy and guilt while seeking redemption and hope for forgiveness.”

This book was really good but so. freaking. sad. It‘s the 1st Wally Lamb book I‘ve read. It‘s heartbreaking all the way through. This would make a good limited series or movie. I loved Jeremy Sisto‘s narration of the audiobook. The book is still lingering with me even though it‘s been a couple of days since I finished it.

lynneamch I've loved all his previous books and wasn't sure about this one until I got to the end. It is such a hard subject but was well worth sticking it out. He is masterful. 4w

All the Way to the River | Elizabeth Gilbert

Gilbert is one of those memoirists that I want to roll my eyes at half the time but the other half I want to hug her for getting at such universal truths about human nature. I did enjoy this look at the death of her long-time friend turned partner Reyya Elias and the insight it gave her into her own problems with sex and love addiction. It‘s a #borrownotbuy for me.

Suet624 A good description of my relationship with her as well 1mo
Megabooks @Suet624 she‘s an interesting woman for sure, and I appreciate her introspection. The book I‘ve really loved from her was The Signature of All Things. When I read that in 2013, it just hit at the right time. (edited) 1mo
Suet624 Yes, I liked that one too. I wish you would write more fiction. Elizabeth is quite able to deliver a line in a unique and special way that can hit you right in the heart but sometimes I just feel like she‘s a bit of a poser. 1mo
JuniperWilde Yes to all of these comments. I can‘t bring myself to read this one but I‘ve appreciated the reviews. 1w
JuniperWilde I also loved signature of all things. 1w

Instead of my favorite, I‘m tagging that one in in the middle. I think it‘s my second time ever, I‘ve left a book unstarred. The book is just so crack-is-wack that I can‘t get my thoughts together.

5 ⭐️= Loved It, would recommend to others. A+
4 ⭐️= Liked it, would love to discuss. Solid B
3.5 ⭐️ = Close to either pick or so-so
3 ⭐️= Meh, no need to discuss. Avg C
2 ⭐️=Nope D
1 ⭐️=DNF F

IriDas You still finished it? Brave. 👏 1mo
Suet624 Haha. Crack is wack. 1mo
Seabreeze_Reader For many readers, I think that author's books are either in the take it or leave it category. Author aside, I'm skeptical of most O! Book Club picks now anyway. 1mo
marleed @IriDas @Suet624 @Seabreeze_Reader EPL was published shortly before the trajectory my life took a 180, and reading it allowed me to think beyond my conditions. I‘ve read all her books and many Dear Ones newsletters. I you-tubed her interviews on this one but I remain wary. Maybe for me she jumped the shark with this memoir. 1mo
Seabreeze_Reader That's great you liked her other books and this one just missed the mark for you. Thanks for the additional information. 🙂 Just for me personally, I don't connect with her writing. 1mo
