pickI listened to the next one (No. 6) in the Amelia Peabody series and liked it very much. The change of the setting and storyline, which were the quite similar in the first four, definitely made No. 5 and this one more interesting. The notion of finding a society hidden from our modern day world reminded me very much of Balck Panther and Wakanda. 😊
pickAfter the last two novels which have been rather disappointing, this one was a new start. For the first time the mystery is not placed in Egypt, but London. It is still situated in surrounding of Egyptology and Archaelogy and plays well with the media‘s frenzy regarding everything that did have to do with Old Egypt. And of course there is Ramses…
Ramses at his best! 🤣🤣🤣
so-soThis one does have a similar plot to the first of the Amelia Peabody novels. A lot of assumed personae, one or two murders and the Master Criminal. The only satisfying point is that the MC won‘t be part of the following novels. And of course Ramses is lighting up the the wholw story with his stoic comments and creative ways to notoriously have his way around the rules and bans of his mother.

Amelia and Emerson‘s now grown children take more of the center stage. Ramses‘ past as a secret agent comes back to haunt him and is it possible that the Master Criminal is still alive? Or is someone masquerading in his place? And lady journalist Margaret Minton returns to interfere and poke her nose in.
Lots of fun, romance and adventure and Emerson cursing. 😂

Back in Egypt with the Emersons in 1916 or so who are up to their usual tricks of solving crime and making trouble. I‘m not a huge fan of the Ramses/Nefret storyline - too much “romance” for me, but I can tolerate it because the rest is just fun.
pickThe plot was a bit convoluted and took a bit to "dig in" but honestly, by now, I am in just for Amelia Peabody, Emerson, Nefret, Ramses, David, Abdul and the rest.
The audiobooks are totally fun.
pick#ReadAway2024 #SeriesLove2024 This was another one of Amelia Peabody‘s fun archaeological adventures in Egypt which, of course, turned into a murder mystery. Amelia also is again hot on the trail of the Master Criminal. The last couple of chapters didn‘t verge on the edge of the ridiculous, the author took a cheerful leap in with both feet. I teetered back and forth between laughter and embarrassment at the silliness of it all.
pickLike Emerson, I was a bit tired of hearing about the MASTER CRIMINAL but honestly these books are just such good fun that even the MC drama stayed pretty entertaining, even if the ending feels rather ridiculous. Ramses is still spoiled, but incrementally less obnoxious in this one. Overall I'm enjoying my reread of this series, but looking forward to the later books where Ramses is older and more a part of the team.
