Rebecca Burgess's journey of self-discovery is raw and honest. My partner and I both are asexual. Asexual representation is nearly nonexistent, so I gobbled up this graphic #memoir. All three of us, though, have very different experiences. I, for example, put on a hypersexual persona to shield myself from the church's slut-shaming after I was r*ped. We need more #asexual and #aromantic voices. When we can see ourselves, it can save lives.
I‘m on a quest to read all the aspec nonfiction written for the general public that I can find, and these are the next three up on my list. I‘m hoping to get to them soon, sprinkled in amongst my other reading. So far, Ace by Angela Chen has been the most accessible and well written on the topic. I appreciate the primer format but I‘d love to find more aspec memoirs and literary nonfiction.

These are my two nonfiction goals for December. I‘m about 1/3 of the way through Body Language and I‘m enjoying it so far. Ace Voices is a new release- I‘m sure I‘ll be comparing it to Angela Chen‘s book. It seems like it‘s going to focus on intersectionality and Ace joy. I tried to capture the vibrant colors of the covers, but this is the best lighting I have right now…

My husband bought this book, then my son binged it, and today it was my turn. All 3 of us saw Alex Gino in Oregon a few years ago and we are fans. This is another fabulous middle grade books about figuring out Queer identity.
If I‘d had books like this as a kid it wouldn‘t have taken me so long to figure out I‘m bisexual. I‘m so grateful for authors sharing stories today about being who you are. ❤️🌈
