My 2025 favorite books

First up is DLTFI

I really enjoyed reading this book and it was also one of the first ones I read this year. Just the right amount of creepy and horror. Also felt very dark academia to me. It also features asexual representation and an Achillean romance.

Trigger warnings for this book will be spoiler marked in the comments. If you do not want to know or be spoiled, simply don‘t click.

Manga about a high school student learning about the Asexual spectrum when she starts at a new school. Full of descriptions of different ways people might identify as Ace, as well as stressing that every person has their own way of being, and the most important thing is getting to know yourself.

TieDyeDude I really enjoyed this. It is nice to read stories of acceptance sometimes vs. stories of adversity. 3w

So thrilled to find the tagged book at my library today! Also scored blind date with an ARC as part of their holiday celebration. So pleased today ❤️

I do not like this book, but do not be confused by my rating. I don't like the Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury, Coraline by Gaiman, and A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, but I do recognize good chilling novels for young adults hankering for thrills.

Chika's idea of dating is different from her friends or the guys she dates. She chases the idea of being normal as she enters college and soon discovers a word that changes everything: asexual. I really enjoyed this manga. I definitely felt similarly to Chika before learning about asexuality and fell on researching it as soon as I discovered it. I like how the side characters help her expand beyond definition into deeper understanding. #LGBTQIA

PuddleJumper I enjoyed this when I read it. It was very affirming 1mo
IriDas Gonna have to get this. Not many ace affirming stories out there. 1mo
Kenyazero @PuddleJumper it was definitely affirming! 🤩 1mo

Kenyazero @IriDas I would recommend it! Lots of care put into portraying this character's experiences. There's also some less explicitly explored aro affirmation here, explained more in the back notes but still noticable if someone's looking for it. 1mo
TieDyeDude @IriDas For great ace rep, I recommend this and 3w
Kenyazero @TieDyeDude that sounds awesome 🤩 I‘ll definitely also have to check this one out. 3w
IriDas @Kenyazero @TieDyeDude Thanks. I‘ll look for both at the library. Sounds like some good holiday reading. 😊 3w

Oh, dear, my heart. It's starts more or less like a YA novel, but with every page it turns into something else. And all of a sudden I was mile deep within the story. Now I definitely need something lighter and brighter. Perfect read for Halloween, though.

PuddleJumper Ooo sounds good 2mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag I‘m reading their next one now and it‘s even more so (I‘m only 60% but am so excited/curious/lowkey worried about how it‘s going to shake out) 2mo
Jari-chan @PuddleJumper It's special and creepy, so yep good 😁 2mo

lil1inblue I still don't know how I feel about this book. It's been about a week since I finished it. 🙃 It was a great halloween read, but I still have questions. 😂 2mo
Jari-chan @lil1inblue oh yeah, so many questions 🫣 but it somehow fits the whole atmosphere 2mo

TieDyeDude This came up in an ace group I follow as having good representation. Sounds excellent! 2mo
Jari-chan @TieDyeDude It does in a sad way, which is due to the style of the book. But I was surprised to find ace rep here and could really relate. 2mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Jari-chan, definitely!! 2mo
