Pickpick

I think I have a #crush on this sweet book (and also realize I missed Saturday). Emilia promises her father on his death bed that she will keep his bookshop open. That was before she realized the severity of the financial situation but she is determined to #nevergiveup. Like any good book store Nightingale Books touches the lives of many people and this book tells their stories along with Emilia's. #augustgrrrls

Cinfhen Well done 👍🏻 💚 7y
Zelma Sounds very sweet. Adding it to my feel-good TBR list. 7y

Being 16 is #complicated enough but Nomi is also dealing with the disappearance of her mother and sister, the rift religion made in her family, and life in a small town. #augustgrrrls

Way back in the mists of time, I nearly finished a@philosophy degree (having a baby and a divorce one after the other kind of detracts from study). But I still have my #think -y books, which date back prior to digital copies.

batsy Nice selection of thinky books! I hope to get to The Second Sex sooner rather than later 😊 7y
Sue @batsy Thanks! De Beauvoir is pretty awesome. I also highly recommend everything Foucault wrote - he had an amazing mind and was lost far too, soon. (Ditto for Merleau-Ponty actually) 7y
batsy @Sue Yes, he is! I've only read some of his work and I need to read the rest. The first volume of The History of Sexuality was pretty amazing. 7y

Cinfhen Thanks for sharing your "think-y" books ? I #think they are out of my league 7y
Sue @Cinfhen I'm sure that's not true! 7y

The Birdman's Wife | Melissa Ashley
post image

Elizabeth Gould must have been a strong #independentwoman - although a wife and mother, she also worked for her husband, producing hundreds of lithographs to illustrate John Gould's work. She even travelled with him to Van Dieman's land, leaving her children at home, so she could help in the documentation of Australia's bird life.

This copy is sans dust jacket and features her lithographs on the cover and fly sheets.

Megabooks Beautiful book cover! 7y
batsy That's so pretty! 7y
Sue @Booksandcooks @batsy I originally got it as an arc, but I had to buy the physical copy when I saw it. The dust jacket is gorgeous too. I saw the author talk when she was launching the book and she was over the moon with the way the publisher put it together. 7y

I'm not sure about #perfectillusion - this is probably more a #purrfectillusion . How cute is this guy? My daughter recently referred to him as the 'marshmallow of death'. You wouldn't believe the puncture wounds I recently received from him trying to steal my dinner and then overbalancing!
