We are still in Brittany, the weather hasn‘t been great but the rain is taking a break so I‘m enjoying one of my 40th birthday pressies (you are supposed to put ice in this Moët I‘m not an animal!) And continuing this thriller about an actuary and an adventure park.

SamAnne Looks lovely! Treat yourself! 7mo
BarbaraBB Moët with ice! Enjoy ? 7mo

My newest Vonnegut acquisition: a first edition collection of short stories. This collection is no longer printed because most of the stories also appear in Welcome to the Monkey House, which is still in print. It is in excellent condition for a 1961 paperback, and that cover illustration is fascinating.

wanderinglynn Great find! 7mo

The_Penniless_Author @RaeLovesToRead Do you also mix up the Beatles with the Bangles? 1y

CBee @The_Penniless_Author 😂😂😂🫢🫢🫢 1y
The_Penniless_Author @RaeLovesToRead What about the Killers and Distillers? 😁 1y
RaeLovesToRead @CBee don't encourage him!!! 😅 1y
CBee @RaeLovesToRead I swear I‘m not 😂😂 I just LOVE you two though. Part of the reason I look forward to Mondays is that I get to read the back and forth between y‘all 😊😂 1y
RaeLovesToRead @CBee Randy is just pretending to be all edgy and punk rock. He actually spends all his time watching Keeping up with the Kardashians and listening to the Kooks. 1y
The_Penniless_Author @RaeLovesToRead @CBee I had to look up the Kooks, and apparently they sound like "a less energetic Thrills" (???‍♂️) or a "less mush-mouthed Libertines". I did have a Libertines album, so maybe I would like the Kooks! ? (Oh, and Keeping Up With the Kardashians has been off the air for years. Get with times, Watts! ?) 1y
CBee @The_Penniless_Author not to burst your bubble, but the Kardashians are on Hulu (unfortunately). They‘re like warts that won‘t go away 😂😂 1y
CBee @RaeLovesToRead 😂😂😂 1y
RaeLovesToRead There are definitely Kardashians on Sky! I don't watch them personally, but I know they are there! 1y
RaeLovesToRead I actually like the Kooks, so you probably wouldn't Randy. There are better K artists though - Kings of Leon, Kate Bush, Kasabian, Katy Perry... 1y
The_Penniless_Author @CBee @RaeLovesToRead Ah, but that's 'The Kardashians', the sequel/reboot of 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians'. Being a strict originalist, I refuse to acknowledge its existence 😑 1y
The_Penniless_Author @RaeLovesToRead Although I've never heard the Kooks, I KNOW they're better than Katy Perry 😂 1y
RaeLovesToRead @CBee He's got them all on DVD anyway, so it's a moot point. (I am using the US meaning of moot, not the UK meaning, R-D) 1y
CBee @The_Penniless_Author I‘m with you, I‘d really just like to pretend that it doesn‘t exist 😂😂 1y
CBee @RaeLovesToRead 😂😂 Wait, what does “moot” mean in Britain? 1y
The_Penniless_Author @cbee @RaeLovesToRead Yeah, this is the first I'm hearing that moot means something else in the UK 🤨 1y
RaeLovesToRead @CBee @The_Penniless_Author My understanding is that a moot point in the US is something irrelevant. In the UK, it's a point up for debate. 1y
CBee @RaeLovesToRead ah ha! And yep, that is definitely what it means here. I actually really love the word “moot” 🤷‍♀️😂 1y
RaeLovesToRead @CBee Are you in the US? (I assumed so, but I saw you liked Keane... I didn't realise they'd been popular there! 😄) (I love Keane 🥰) 1y
CBee @RaeLovesToRead I am! I love a lot of bands that aren‘t as mainstream here 😊 1y
The_Penniless_Author @RaeLovesToRead @CBee Interesting! So over there it's a point up for debate, and here it's a point no longer up for debate because (as you said) it's now irrelevant. I wonder how it got to have nearly opposite meanings? 1y
RaeLovesToRead Randy, I feel you should post a picture of beautiful Linus on Litsy to show everyone what a handsome devil he is when he's not booping a fish-eye lens 🤣🤣 1y
The_Penniless_Author @RaeLovesToRead I've had plenty of Linus pictures on here. Go look back through my history. 1y

I'm looking the rabbit in the eye when the lights suddenly go out. With my left hand I squeeze the tube of industrial-strength glue, with my right I hold the screwdriver, and I listen.

Pickpick

Hassan grows up in poverty and abuse, hoping wealthy relations will help him as he grows older. This book starts with a chapter that is wall to wall abuse, but that doesn‘t continue, thankfully. It does set the stage to juxtapose the realities of Hassan‘s life with those of his wealthy uncle, to whom he travels in hopes of opportunity. A good, short read.

#Zanzibar #ReadingAfrica2022

BarbaraBB I‘m going to read a book by him too, another one though 2y
Librarybelle I somehow missed this won the Nobel Prize! Awesome! 2y
Hooked_on_books @Librarybelle I think the prize was more for his body of work generally, but it was a big deal! Apparently his publisher has always championed him but he hasn‘t found a wide readership and I‘m sure the prize helped. I would read him again for sure. 2y
