Les alignements de Carnac | Anne Belaud de Saulce
post image

Another pic of Carnac standing stones outside of the enclosure for #beautybreak & b/c I've just finished the tagged book, bought at the Maison des mégalithes book/giftshop. It was available in French, English & German. A well-written, clear & concise introduction to the site & its history. Unsurprisingly, its pictures were better than the ones we took😊 I wish I'd read it *before* our visit.

Also we missed Halloween in Carnac by 2 days😤

kspenmoll Such beauty! I love aged stones/boulders. Often encounter them when hiking. (edited) 3w

Uncle seemed very pleased to hear that... I realized that this was the first time I'd talked about love with Uncle, and I think I remember that that April afternoon I was reading My Friends, by Emmanuel Bove, a book that tells the sad story of Victor Bâton, a war invalid who wants nothing so much as a friend to escape his solitude, and I never heard any mention of Catherine again, but I enthusiastically recommend Emmanuel Bove's My Friends.

Adding this to my list of Peirene's weirder books...
‐--------

Ever since their father died my mother and Uncle have remembered him with a sort of reverence, and they made a kind of funerary scarecrow that's supposed to be him, and what it is is a bolster pillow dressed in a kaftan and a sailor's cap that presides over the attic, and actually I suspect it was my uncle who initiated the project...

Pickpick

My favorite French detective is back with another visit to Bretagne and awesome food and place descriptions. One thing to note is that there is a dog death in this book, so if this is too upsetting for you, be warned.
I love how the inspector always gets to solve the crime in 3 days. In fact, the books are structured as day 1, day 2, and day 3. Cute!!!

This was my first finished book of the year and gotta say this one just really didn‘t work for me. Gisler is a Swiss writer and yet I kept feeling like the book was Japanese fiction as it had that feeling to it. A brother and sister care for their nearly feral, mostly housebound uncle. Sadly, I just didn‘t see the point.

Still one of my favorite series. Inspector Dupin does not disappoint and the French Brittany who is the other protagonist of the series together with the food is still on my bucket list to visit because of this series

Commissaire Dupin faces another wild & wildly complicated investigation in Brittany. He speaks of his love for the Breton artist, Maxine Maufra,a painter I have never heard of. I love when I discover something new in a book & the excitement I feel as I delve into that subject.

Cuilin I love when that happens, I had to look up some other paintings, they‘re quite beautiful. Thanks for posting. 1y
