Woof. I read this in one mesmerized, horrified gulp. Gorgeously written and just eviscerating. I guessed part of it but that didn't spare me anything.

This novel is a little difficult to follow with the large number of characters and jumps in time, which could be why it's less scary than it might have been. I appreciate the setting---California's Central Valley---and there's a lot of vivid imagery, but the story doesn't quite gel, at least for me. The ending is solid, though.

Out of all of MXTX‘s works this was the one that interested me the least. I wasn't going to buy it but I found it for £3 at a charity shop.
This didn't capture me. I enjoyed the sections in the present but I found the flashbacks quite dull. I'm not interested enough to carry on, especially since it's such a long series and expensive to buy.

Surprised I enjoyed this, to be honest. 😂 It's a short prequel to a series in which all of Austen's main characters work or go to school at a Southern University. This is about Jane's secret relationship, and her attempts to pledge a snobby sorority that will facilitate her seeing Frank... even though a much friendlier one with Elizabeth Bennet is available. It felt like the author was having fun with the characters, and I'll read on.
This has been on my ARC backlog for awhile and I thought it was about queer vampires. It isn't. That's on me.
It's a dark academia murder mystery which wasn't very well done. The book is messy. The ideas are good but they got lost in confusing and dense prose.
It lacked depth and the ending was very unsatisfactory.

(Well, this book was a “dream“ for WordFinder!)
At first I *appreciated* this romance more than I really liked it. It has interesting queer rep: Edgar is an out but extremely withdrawn gay man; Jamie is non-binary, leaning masculine, with a history of bad experiences with cis gay men. It's easy for Jamie to think Edgar is turned off by them because his anxiety is so severe, he can barely communicate... because he sees dead people! (cont.)
A whimsical middle grade story that turns out to have a lot of heart. Image is from a letter my mom wrote (urging the Gov. to sign protections for trans Californians) on my ancient typewriter, Goliath. She couldn't bear to part with it; I know she'll love this book.

#SPNBookBingo2025 “Men of Letters.“ I couldn't resist!
Runaway werewolf Tam flees to their childhood friend Nova, seeking help with a dangerous destiny. As Nova and her witchy family work to save Tam, their friendship blossoms into love. A sweet, magical YA graphic novel, that's mainly plot focused but also includes themes of disability (Nova is hard-of-hearing) and queer identity.

I'm starting to think that writers of fiction are even more prescient than I realized. This isn't a great Christie novel. It's her attempt at dystopian fiction, and it's disjointed, melodramatic, and weird, but there are some really interesting observations and commentary. It's got a bit of overlap with themes from A Clockwork Orange and Brave New World, but she never leans into those in a compelling way. Still, it's an interesting departure.
