Library hold for this just came in ... away I go! I‘m expecting it to be a rough read, since I‘ve been through some intense Lyme treatment myself. I‘ve read the comments about her messy relationships being more prominent than her illness. Hoping i don‘t feel that way...

catiewithac I really enjoyed this book, but I wish she had used this opportunity to provide more education about Lyme‘s Disease. I‘m a RN and I still wouldn‘t understand if someone just responded with “Lyme” in response to health history questions. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @catiewithac Even without reading her book, I can agree with you. Lyme (Not Lyme‘s) is so complicated. If you‘d like to read more, this is my GR shelf with lots of choices. https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/3932962-barbara-the-bibliophage?shelf=lyme... 6y

I need to get back to my NetGalley ARC pile, so I started this one today. I have chronic Lyme, so I'm curious to see how this book portrays the struggle. #chroniclyme #chronicillness

dariazeoli I went hiking a few weeks ago and found ticks on me a few days later. I'm terrified of getting Lyme disease! 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @dariazeoli If the ticks were attached, the best thing to do is go see your doctor and get as many days of doxycycline as they will give you. 30 days is best, but a lot of docs won't do that much. If you hike a lot, use cedar oil spray on skin and clothes. Or treat your hiking clothes with permethicin. Shower as soon as you get back. Put your clothes in the dryer for 30 min when you get back to kill remaining ticks. Just a few ideas to help ... 7y
dariazeoli @BarbaraTheBibliophage Thanks for that info! This was my first hike and I'm apprehensive about going again. I was able to pluck the tick off and noticed no bites, so hoping I lucked out. I know it's been an exceptionally bad season for ticks. (edited) 7y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @dariazeoli I'll cross my fingers for you! 7y
UnabridgedTomes There was a really interesting Radiolab about how one woman was bitten by a tick and became allergic to meat. It's amazing/tragic how such a tiny bug can wreak such havoc. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @UnabridgedTomes Sure is. That type of tick is supposedly getting more common as well. 7y
monkeygirlsmama Sounds like an interesting book. 7y
Crystalblu Super curious myself, one of my oldest friends struggles with Lyme as well! 7y
BkClubCare Scary stuff. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @monkeygirlsmama @Crystalblu I'm about 30% through. It's a good introduction to Lyme. 7y
kspenmoll I am copying this book ( she may have heard of it) for a dear friend who has battled chronic Lyme for years. Such a difficult, devastating journey. Thank you! 7y
kspenmoll Thanks, will do. 💜 7y

That moment when my FB Messenger conversation and my current read intersect. #chronicillness #chronicmigraine #chroniclyme #readingthroughthepain

Suet624 Chronic Lyme here as well. 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Suet624 I'm sorry we are in the same club. Litsy is yay! Lyme is yuck! 💚 8y
Suet624 @BarbaraTheBibliophage Agreed. At least when I can't get off the couch I can read. And at this point I actually remember what I've read. 8y

TwinklingBooks I have a longterm illness. This book is on my #TBR. books always help you 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Suet624 There were definitely many times that I'd read the same sentence over and over, while comprehending nothing. Happy to be back in the reading world again! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @TwinklingBooks I'm sorry to hear you're raving long term illness too. I found this book recently, and have been pleasantly surprised at the authors' wisdom. I am so grateful for books in my life! 8y
TwinklingBooks @BarbaraTheBibliophage me too! Books and my cats keep me sane. And it keeps happening to me too when you read same sentence but nothing registers. 8y
Desha Thank you for posting about this book! I have a chronic lung disease called bronchiectasis and I'm on disability retirement from teaching because of it. It's taken me a loooong time to gain even a modicum of acceptance of he ways my life hasx 8y
Desha been changed. It's a daily struggle/slog through the difficulties lol😜. When I'm not crying I have to laugh at the absurdness of it all! Thanks for sending out some encouragement! ☺️ 8y
Desha And yes...dogs and books are THE best! Yay for Litsy! ❤️📚📚❤️ 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Desha There are a lot of us here facing chronic illness, so you're not alone and you're among friends. I wasn't sure what to expect about this book and truly feel it's a gem. Hope it helps you! Another good one from an author with pulmonary hypertension is 8y
Desha Thanks!! Definitely already added to my TBR list! That's awesome...so glad we can support one another! 🤒😢❤️☺️😊 8y
