Help, I am drowning! Books to read soon, including Red and the Black on my Kindle and Redefining Realness on audio (available for free on Hoopla). Seven of these are some form of book club/ buddy read... and I am backburnering two more... aaaah

Belated #bookreport for week of 6/28-7/5 (one extra day because I‘m late). Three completed. Almost done with the Coates. Planning to focus on the Whitehead for a few days b/c I have tickets to hear him speak online Thursday. Excited for the next two, especially in light of this morning‘s Supreme Court decision about the electoral college.

MicheleinPhilly I assume you are referring to the Free Library event? He cancelled in solidarity with black employees who say they are not being paid equally. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @MicheleinPhilly Actually, no. My favorite indie in Harrisburg, Midtown Scholar, has him speaking on Thursday. I respect his cancel at the Free Library, though. (edited) 4y
MicheleinPhilly Oh good! Enjoy! 4y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @MicheleinPhilly Thanks! How are you holding up? 4y
MicheleinPhilly Eh, we‘re surviving. We have good weeks and bad weeks mentally but we‘re safe and healthy which is all we can ask for these days. How about you guys? 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @MicheleinPhilly Sounds like our situation. Ups and downs but hanging in. I closed my practice right before the Governor shut us down. Still not comfortable with massage, so I‘m exploring “temporary retirement.” 4y
MicheleinPhilly I don‘t blame you at all. I‘m not even super comfortable when I‘m walking the dog because there are so many unmasked people out and about. And it‘s hard to properly distance yourself in our neighborhood. I usually end up stepping out into oncoming traffic. 🙄 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @MicheleinPhilly Careful with the traffic—yikes! I walk 3-4 times/week in our neighborhood and a nearby trail. But only when the trail isn‘t packed. Early weekday mornings. Because weekends are full of unmasked deniers. 😱 4y
MicheleinPhilly This weekend they are closing East Passyunk Avenue to traffic so the restaurants can have expanded outdoor dining. Obviously I want the shops and restaurants to make money but I am staying far away from that COVID block party! 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @MicheleinPhilly Oh yes ... sounds overall risky. But we miss eating in restaurants so much ... 4y
MicheleinPhilly Same. We‘ve been trying to support them as much as we can with takeout but it isn‘t the same. 4y
MallenNC I‘m interested in that book about the Electoral College. I saw Colson Whitehead online for Politics and Prose, and it was great. You‘re in for a treat. The Nickel Boys was so good. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @MallenNC A few people have posted about the Electoral College book. All positive. So far, The Nickel Boys is great! 4y
Hooked_on_books I echo what @MallenNC says—Whitehead is terrific and I‘m curious about the electoral college book. I look forward to your review! 4y
