Lyrical, gorgeous, raw-there is a lot of graceful power packed into this slim volume. I love this poetry collection and look forward to reading more from Jericho Brown. #poetry #ownvoices #blacklivesmatter #diversespines #BLMReadingList

This is an excellent story of something I knew nothing about. I learned a lot. The author told the stories of the three central individuals so well, it really brought them to life. I was on the edge of my seat, angered, heartbroken, it was an emotional journey. #diversespines #diversereads #buddyread #readwomen #blackhistorymonth

Reviewsbylola I thought this was on my TBR. Stacking! 6y

Week 3 #buddyread with @spinesvines is done. This book and the author really brings the stories of the migration to life. #diversespines
Listening while shoveling snow and feeding the birds. We got another 2 feet this weekend. Enjoying the sun and break before the next storm.

Listened to week two of the @spinesvines Instagram #buddyread today while cleaning and then shoveling 4 ft of snow off my car from this weekend‘s storm. The stories are agonizing as you can feel the emotion of the three main characters as they migrate out of the South. #diversespines

Reading this all month with an Instagram #buddyread for #blackhistorymonth - finished week 1 today. It‘s so good, the author is an amazing story teller, reads like historical fiction. #diversespines

“What no one tells you about grief is that you don‘t want to figure out a way to live with it—you want the part of you that hurts to die instead” 🥃🎀 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A police officer has been killed, his widow is pregnant & she falls in love with his brother. Whoa! A beautiful debut. I loved how stories from the past intersect with the present. The element of music guides you through family dynamics, love & grief. #spinesvines #diversespines

🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷/5 Cheers!⁣⁣
I went into this book completely blind. Once I discovered the subject matter, I went to google to educate myself on Trokosi. The setting is a fictional West African country & Abeo Kata is a 9 y.o. girl who is ripped from her privilege lifestyle when her father forces her to become a slave in a religious sect. ⁣⁣This was a haunting & heartbreaking read that stayed with me weeks after I finished. #spinesvines #diversespines

Notafraidofwords I‘ve read all her books and they are all like that. Haunting and beautiful. 6y
