Will Raven's wife is 8 months' pregnant. Spiritualism and mesmerism come to Edinburgh. And a foot is found in a cupboard in Surgeons' Hall. But whose?
An enjoyable mystery and a great picture of mid-19th century Edinburgh. An exciting finish.

The smell of oil was all around him, sharp and yet cloying. He had splashed it about the stage until the can was empty, taking care to make sure its grim centrepiece in particular was thoroughly doused.

so good and yet heartbreaking at the same time. It deals with some pretty tough themes and as a parent of a girl the right age it was hard hitting. I like how we saw it through three completely different experiences. It added so much more depth to the story. The plot is simple in many ways yet it takes you on a journey. It has a modern feel running through it with occasional excerpts from online posts, police reports. #Netgalley 5*

“Gratitude was a lost art, she felt. People accepted things, took them as their right, and had forgotten how to give proper thanks.”

I have been enjoying this series immensely and this novella (#3.5 in the series) is no exception. The combination of mystery, historical fiction, time travel and the hint of romance meets all my wants for a fun read. This one had Mallory taking the lead in a case and had her meeting up with Charles Dickens. I highly recommend starting with the first in the series “A Rip Through Time“. 4.25/5 stars

Another novella with a mini-mystery for Mallory and Gray. Mallory is excited to see Charles Dickens perform. As she and Gray angle for an autograph, they are introduced to the author by Gray‘s ex-lover. Gray‘s ex has a little blackmail problem and Mallory agrees to take the case. There was less tension and danger, but it is always nice to meet historical figures and be reminded that people are the similar no matter the time period. 3/5 ⭐️

A delightful novella in the time travel series, I really enjoyed this one set around Mallory's first Christmas in Victorian Edinburgh and showcasing Duncan's former love, Lady Inglis. Mallory and Duncan are asked to uncover the identity of a blackmailer and recover risqué love letters between Lady Inglis and a friend with benefits. The villain wants a payoff, or the letters will be released to the press. I loved that this storyline was a bit ?
