Begin at the end: plummeting down the side of the ship in the storm's wild darkness, breath gone with the shock of falling, my camera flying away through the rain--

The bright side of the planet moves toward darkness and the cities are falling asleep, each in its hour, and for me, now as then, it is too much. There is too much world. Czeslaw Milosz

This might be the quote before the first line, but I liked it better.

It wasn't quite what I expected, but then again, what does that even mean? What exactly was I expecting? It doesn't matter. At this point, I'm just willing to read anything she writes.

First real outing in 84 days (yes, I've been counting), and where do I go? A bookstore, of course!

I did not need any more books to read, but it's not like I was going to let that stop me.

Super happy with my haul! I mostly wanted to get my hands on the books Amazon failed to deliver to me all those months ago.

I have been eagerly awaiting this book for years, ever since I read (and almost immediately re-read) the wonderful ‘Station Eleven‘ by @EmilyMandel. #TheGlassHotel #EmilyStJohnMandel #book #books #bookstagram #bookphotography #bookish #contemporaryfiction #literature #canadianfiction #bookcommunity #fiction #newbooks #newbook #amazonprime

You guys, I really liked this one! It wasn‘t at all what I was expecting. I loved how it came together in the end, but I do wish she had given me a little more on The Prophet. Still, I loved the appreciation for the arts (theater, writing, fine arts, comics), and it felt grounded and realistic. Not otherworldly at all. I don‘t know why I waited so long to read it. Can‘t wait for The Glass House now. #emilystjohnmandel #stationeleven #theglasshosue

ElaineR Well this sounds rather timely! Hadn't heard of it but sounds interesting. 5y

Panpan

Arthur Leander, Hollywood actor, had a heart attack during a production of King Lear. A flu pandemic arrives and civilization as we know it comes to an end. Kirsten Raymonde and The Traveling Sympathy dedicate themselves to keeping the remnants of art and humanity alive. They encounter a violent prophet who will threaten the band‘s existence. Post apocalyptic book and not in my comfort zone and there didn't seem to be much point of the story.

readingjedi I didn't really feel this one either 🤷🏼‍♀️ 5y
kricheal Thank you for writing this review! I read this three(?) years ago and everyone was giving it RAVE reviews and I still don't understand what was so great about it. I'm glad I'm not the only one! 5y
EadieB @kricheal Your welcome! I listened to audio as it was marked as one of the best books of the year. Afterward, I said, “What the heck was that all about?” Different strokes for different folks, I guess! We don‘t all have to like it just because others said it was good! @readingjedi (edited) 5y
