The enslavement of a main character just does not allow me to be invested in the romance. #hailthebail
Continuing a month of way too many DNF‘s 😣

This book has been in my TBR for awhile now and I‘m soooo happy I finally got to it 🥰What an amazing story with so much character development. I am soooo excited to continue the series since it‘s all on KU 📚🤓 Vampires, humans, fantasy SJM feels, I‘m obsessed!

This was a sweet and funny tale, with lots of ups and downs and a few shenanigans for good measure. It wasn‘t difficult to see where it was heading, but getting there was enjoyable. I didn‘t like it as much as Half a Soul, but the writing was good and the characters endearing.

I enjoyed this romantasy. It was a bit slow to start but it picked up for sure.

A great fantasy novel. I loved Silla and her growth through the course of the story. The world building is great!

Loved this book! The third installment in the broken kingdom series and the finale of the fight for the Northern Kingdom was everything I hoped for. We had new and old friends join the story, lots of action, and of course a bit of spice. Can‘t wait to go to the next novel and begin a new fight for the next broken kingdom!

This is a low pick for me and that‘s disappointing. I love this series and I‘ve loved all of the other books so far - some of my favorite reads of the past year. This one took forever for the story to gain traction. Most of the first half was a slog. It finally picked up and became more engaging but it‘s all a little too late. I wanted more and I wanted a little less predictability.

robinb It‘s a shame when a series book doesn‘t measure up to its predecessors (and frustrating). Been there, read that. 😂😔 1w
DGRachel @robinb it‘s technically a standalone set in the same world, and I think part of the problem is that it‘s an older book that‘s just been trad published after originally being self-published. No shade on self-publishing, I just think her writing skill has gotten better. I still have high hopes for Book 4 of the series. 1w
robinb I haven‘t read her before but recently bought this one. So these two are set in the same world? I also saw where this series is recommended for those who like The Bridge Kingdom series…which would be me. 😊🙋🏻‍♀️ 1w
DGRachel @robinb Yes. Serpent is book 1 of the first duology. This one is technically book 2.5 if you‘re reading in author‘s order. I loved Serpent and the one that followed. They are the first Romantasy series by any author that I‘ve enjoyed. I will have to check out the Bridge Kingdom series! 1w
robinb I recommend the Bridge series. I‘ve read the first two and the 5th came out last week so I‘m a bit behind. Great world building. 1w

Another great #TBRtarot pick this month. This was like the hunger games but with mortals fighting to the death for each Greek God as a way to decide who will rule the world. I loved it and it ended on quite the cliffhanger so I‘m hoping the next book comes out soon. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Schnoebs I loved reading this and can‘t wait for the sequel! 2w
CBee I might need to check this out! 2w

I woke up to a scary email about changes to my train back to Paris. I rushed over to the station at 10:00 to resolve it, but the office didn‘t open until 10:30 so I killed time in this nice little park.

The staff tell me there‘s no issue with my seat, no matter what the email says, but I‘m still gonna worry until I‘m actually on the TGV.

In other news, THE SHABTI is great! Interesting characters, strong horror elements, solid conflict.

tpixie 😅🍀 🇫🇷 2w
Dilara Oh dear! I hope the staff was right... 2w
xicanti @Dilara they were wrong. I ended up having to go back there after lunch, but now I have a 2nd class seat facing backwards instead of the 1st class forward-facing seat I booked weeks ago. I‘m not impressed, either with SNCF‘s decision to shrink the train or with the early staff‘s failure to check on that. 2w

So, it turns out the restaurants of Tours mostly don‘t open until 18:00 or 18:30. I NEEDED food, so I had another half a baguette and some salmon salad someone left in the cupboard.

I also have language fatigue. My written comprehension is great, but my aural stinks, and I‘m tired of always being embarrassed and ashamed because I can‘t understand people. I‘m just gonna hole up inside and be kinda hungry with this historical mystery.

Ruthiella Yeah, oral comprehension is tough! It comes with time, but when one is in the country for a short period… 2w
tpixie Yes! I wish everybody talked with captions over their heads! I can read French better than understand them when they‘re talking!!! 💬💬💬 2w
xicanti @Ruthiella yep. Sigh. 2w
xicanti @tpixie I wish this ALL THE TIME. When I watch French shows and movies, I put the French subtitles on and it makes life so much easier. 2w
