Thoroughly enjoyed this. I ended up listening to the audiobook as I had a free Audible credit and wanted to sit outside.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. As people have commented, romantacy is romanticizing very toxic actions & people. Willow Talks Books (YouTube) recommended S&SM a bit ago, highlighting how this has some of those tropes but handles them differently. Neither character‘s behavior is excused but is explained. Most readers will probably see the twists coming but that doesn‘t remove the emotional resonance. Very much looking forward to the next book.
I really enjoyed this book but didn't realize until the end that we wouldn't get a wrap up some key points and that there would be a sequel... that doesn't seem to be out yet.
But I did enjoy this one.... it felt kinda like cozy fantasy but with distinctly more plot than they normally have. Will definitely pick up the sequel and I dearly hope Sybilla shows up again.
This is the rest of my reading pile for June. Can I finish it? We'll see. An awful lot of this month was taken up by manga, but I've still made a sizeable dent in the novels I'd put aside to read.
Starting Sorcery and Small Magics tonight. And it's another pretty FairyLoot naked hardcover.
I enjoyed this a lot in the end, though I only really settled into it today. I am agog at the developments at the end, and really want more of the story so we can get more of this slow burn.
Also, this was my #DoubleSpin and that's a blackout for #BookSpinBingo as well!
Ah, friends, my tiny skull and I are loving SORCERY AND SMALL MAGICS! One of the blurbs calls it Ghibliesque and this is entirely accurate. I‘m excited to wolf down the last 60 pages tonight.
In other news, I‘ve gone a week without infecting the household with my eye cold, so I figure my hand sanitization regimen is strong enough for the Real World (combined with a mask). I ventured out today and bought a TOOTHBRUSH and some FROZEN FRUIT! Whee!
I love your list Rachel! I‘ve read 2 already (Veronica Roth & Emily Wilde). I bailed for now on Running Close to the Wind but maybe I‘ll give it another try.
A lot of great sounding books on your list. The tagged was the only one currently on my TBR, so I‘ll probably start with that one. But I‘m going to give all the ones pictured a try in January!
Also, I‘m super excited to be matched with you again after 4 years! 💚💚

Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy was my only five star read of the month, so an easy pick for October. Unfortunately, I think Anxious People beats it out to the semi-final spot.

Rivals Leo and Grimm have to work together, which wouldn't be ideal on a normal day, but due to an accidental curse Leo now has to obey his rival's every command. And as if using forbidden magic wasn't enough to undo the curse they have to go into the Unquiet Wood, a forbidden forest full of monsters and lethal flora. There they might find a legendary sorcerer who can undo the curse with a counterspell, or they ⬇️
5/5
Leo and Grimm have notoriously cannot get along. But when they're partnered together in a class and accidentally place a curse on Leo, they're forced to journey into the Unquiet Wood, to try to find a cure.
I loved this book so much. The magic system and the characters are wonderful, and I really look forward to future books revealing more of the mysteries of the world, and to see how the relationship between Leo and Grimm evolves.
Sorcery and Small Magics takes the top spot for July! #BookBracket2024 @CSeydel
I got my #bookspin #doublespin and a bingo this month! I was *this close* to getting a second bingo but c'est la vie. Still pretty dang happy with this! Now I've gotta get my board set up for this month. @TheAromaofBooks
Rival sorcerers are forced to work together when one of them accidentally places an obedience curse on the other. If anyone discovers the curse, they'll be expelled or even imprisoned. With the effects of the curse growing ever worse, they'll have to venture into the dangerous woods and confront what exactly it is that makes them hate each other so much. 5 wonderfully gay stars for the enemies to lovers cozy fantasy of my dreams 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
