Mehso-so

I almost want to give this a pick. I don‘t know why. It has some problematic parts, some of which actually damage women (can we please burn “herstory” to the ground already! Actual women in the field are harmed by this term, thank you). She seems to have no clue what most people mean when referring to the “c-word” (she uses it when referring to the word crone). 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

GingerAntics The use of a product with someone else‘s blood as an ingredient is not medically sound. Just. No. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 1mo
GingerAntics It‘s mostly a discussion of how women have been marginalised and harmed throughout history through the use of the words “witch,” “slut,” and “feminist.” Definitely a conversation starter, but there are some issues here that just make me so uncomfortable. I probably would not read this again, even for a buddy read or group read. #KristenJSollee #WitchesSlutsFeminists #audiobook #ReadByTheAuthor (edited) 1mo

When you hear “the c-word,” what do you think of!
#KristenJSollee #WitchesSlutsFeminists #audiobook #ReadByTheAuthor

GingerAntics For the record, crone is NOT the c-word! I can‘t imagine anyone would have guessed crone as the c-word. 🙄 1mo
5feet.of.fury Depending on the context: Cancer? C u next Tuesday? 😂 no not crone 1mo
Eggbeater I think of an innocent body part turned into an insult, mainly by misogynistic men. It's still a good word for the body part, and I'm taking it back! 1mo
GingerAntics @Eggbeater yeah, she said c-word first, then she said crone. 🤯 I‘m sorry, I thought we were really digging into to sexism for a second there! 1mo
GingerAntics @5feet.of.fury hadn‘t thought of cancer. That‘s a good one, like how some people will only whisper it. 1mo

TalesandTexts How is this book? It‘s on my TBR!! 🤩 1mo
GingerAntics @TalesandTexts well, her idea of the c-word is very different from mine. She talks about using an ointment that has someone else‘s menstrual blood as an ingredient. She used the ridiculous and harmful work “herstory.” It was also written in 2017 and BOY have things really taken a nose dive since then. 1mo
GingerAntics @TalesandTexts other wise, it‘s actually an interesting discussion starter, but she‘s a little out there for me… maybe I‘m prudish (or she would call me that), but that‘s just me. 1mo

TalesandTexts Omg!!! Whaaaattt?!!! How can authors be so irresponsible? Giving such information and not putting out any - “hey maybe don‘t try all these without further research…?” 1mo
TalesandTexts I totally get you though. I am not too into the “out there” practices - especially in spell work and rituals. But I get that what isn‘t my cup of tea, maybe someone else‘s. Thanks for the input! 1mo
GingerAntics @TalesandTexts yeah, the totally unnecessary description of her use of the ointment was just… wow… I think maybe she just needs a filter. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Like, some info is private and that‘s not prudish, babes. 1mo

#WeDoNotCare that we have 1000+ reading choices at home. It is important to support our local library and support authors who are fighting the good fight plus a couple Booker nominees.

Hope you had a good flight and are having the best time! @dabbe

AmyG True. We don‘t care at all. If I had a $1 for every time my husband said….you need another book??? (edited) 4mo

IriDas The library has really helped me in my need for new books. I read, but I also find comfort in the presence of books. Libraries have saved me a lot of money which at present keeps me out of debt. 😊 📚 l 4mo

Oof. This hurts my heart. What a light they left in the world. I first read the tagged book of poems because of Alyisha‘s #ALSpine list and it made me laugh, cry, and feel both seen and exposed. Read their books and watch their videos. It‘s good stuff and a bit heartbreaking that there won‘t be more.

JamieArc @yourfavouritemixtape I think you read this one from my ALSpine list, right? 4mo

monalyisha I don‘t even know what to say, honestly. I was hoping something profound would come to me but it hasn‘t. I‘m glad we all got to share their words around our community. If you get Andrea‘s newsletter, their wife is continuing it — and stoking the flickering fire of their legacy! 4mo
yourfavouritemixtape @jamiearc yes I did! What sad news… 😔 4mo

Fair Rosaline | Natasha Solomons

Pickpick

I really enjoyed this R&J retelling, which centers Rosaline's POV. Sure, it takes a bunch of liberties and they may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it was a great new viewpoint to read Romeo as a Very Bad Man. I didn't love Tybalt's characterization but seeing the Friar in a new light was fascinating and chilling. Now I need to go search for every Rosaline-centric work out there! #BooksAndBlooms

Andrea313 @mcipher When I bought the book, I thought, "Huh, looks like my vase." Then I found roses at a discount?! Had to complete the look. ? 6mo
