pick1930's setting is Brazil and Los Angeles. Graca, spoiled daughter of wealthy sugar baron, and Dores, orphan kitchen worker, begin an intense friendship. They share their passion for music - Graca as a singer and Dores as a writer. Excellent writing and captivating. Plot is beautifully heartwarming but tragically sad. Dores' narration is vivid and unforgettable. Would highly recommend this book to those who love cultural historical fiction.
