#RedRoseSeptember #GroundsForDivorce

Grounds for divorce: a husband who goes off the grid for several years, then stalks you in Paris, only to have a moment with you to perhaps maybe try to explain, only to disappear again. You might as well not be married, when your husband chooses to “die”.

Cinfhen Eeekkk, he sounds awful!!!!! Hope the book was better 5y
arlenefinnigan I mean, there's worse places to be stalked, but still... 5y
CrowCAH @Cinfhen it was alright. Written well. 5y
CrowCAH @arlenefinnigan I agree, a very selfish man. 5y

(Day 15 - #GroundsForDivorce)

*I feel like your husband hiring a hitman to kill you would qualify as #GroundsForDivorce. This is a story about a wealthy oilman, T. Cullen Davis (center), his estranged, from-the-wrong-side-of-the-tracks wife, Priscilla, and the many ways money can buy an out for the defendant in a nearly slam-dunk case. [Pict. from top left, clockwise, Gary Cartwright; flamboyant lawyer “Racehorse” Haynes; ⬇️

gradcat ⬆️ (Cont.) Priscilla Davis (post-shooting) in courtroom; the six-million dollar Ft. Worth mansion that Priscilla occupied; and the broken window where Gus Gavrel, a friend who was in the process of dropping his wife to stay with Priscilla for the night, was shot and subsequently crashed into the dining room window. ♥️ (edited) 5y
arlenefinnigan Quite a story! 5y
gradcat @arlenefinnigan It is! Davis managed to beat this in two trials, but oh, the money he spent...loads on his defense! 5y

Cinfhen I‘m oddly fascinated!!!! I‘d like to see this as a docu-series on Netflix 😜 5y
gradcat @Cinfhen Oh, well, guess what? They did make a miniseries for ABC in 1995 starring Peter Strauss and Heather Locklear. It was sort of trashy TV, kind of a “Dallas”-type soapy version of reality. Dennis Franz played Richard “Racehorse” Haynes, the attorney who reached legendary status in Texas. Kind of forgettable in the end, but not so the reality—they‘re still talking about in Texas! It was called (fittingly, imho) “Texas Justice.” 😂 5y
Cinfhen Hahahaha!!! Maybe I‘ll find it on the internet ❣️ 5y

A #twofer post to get me caught up.
There is a #BizarreLoveTriangle in this book when widowed mommy blogger Stephanie makes a new friend Emily & then falls for Emily‘s husband Sean after she goes missing. (There‘s also another crazy ick-ish triangle from Stephanie‘s past too.) All three characters do things in this book that are more than #GroundsForDivorce 🖤 I liked the movie much more than the book due to the casting/acting.

arlenefinnigan Loving the double link. Excellent work. 5y
Cinfhen 🍦🍦that‘s what I call the #DoubleDip 😊well played 5y

Pickpick

If anyone had #groundsfordivorce it was April Wheeler IMO. If only she‘d had access to reliable birth control...

#RedRoseSeptember

arlenefinnigan God bless birth control m 5y
Cinfhen I own this book but haven‘t read it yet 🙄 5y

Ali Smith had her finger on the pulse in one of the first Brexit novels 😬 #GroundsForDivorce #RedRoseSeptember @Cinfhen @arlenefinnigan

arlenefinnigan I liked this, but I find Ali Smith slightly hard workm 5y
Cinfhen I agree @arlenefinnigan I can‘t connect with her books. I just don‘t enjoy reading them #UnpopularOpinion 5y
Moray_Reads She's probably my favourite living author but definitely not for everyone. That cover though! 😍 @cinfhen @arlenefinnigan 5y

Henry VIII had the whole #GroundsForDivorce down to a science. He also knew how to sentence wives to death, but that‘s a discussion for another day... #RedRoseSeptember

arlenefinnigan The comedian Mark Steel once said "when I was at school we had a rhyme to help us remember Henry VIII's wives:'divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived". It'll be a lot easier for kids studying the modern Royal family:' divorced, divorced, divorced, divorced, divorced, crashed. '" 5y
Librarybelle @arlenefinnigan 😂 That‘s good! 5y

CarolynM @arlenefinnigan 😂😂😂 I love Mark Steel. Have you read his book on the French Revolution? It's hilarious 5y
Maggie_Reads Oh man, I tried to read this a few years ago but I bailed. He had great info and it was well researched but it read like a dry textbook to me so I DNF it. 5y
Librarybelle @Maggie_Reads I‘ve heard that about this one - very dry writing. I haven‘t read it yet. Dryness in tone doesn‘t bother me, but I also need to be in the right mindset to read something dry. If I‘m super stressed or anxious, I can‘t read dry texts. 5y
