Excellent poignant MG novel in verse with themes of heroism, loss, reparation, self awareness/truth, healing and recovery. ❤️‍🩹 Written with intelligence and authentic ‘voices‘, you will be moved by 13 yo Finn‘s journey💔

I loved a lot of things about Trouble. Finn's sarcastic sense of humor (the automatic text message made me laugh every single time), the juxtaposition of an emotional burden with a daunting physical endeavor, and how things came together in unexpected ways were some of my favorites.

Grit and grief and so much anger lead a young boy to a deplorable act and an expectation of great feats. This was a stellar novel told partially in poetry and partially in epistolary format. Frequent mentions of Sept 11 and the aftermath.

Since I am currently reading a series and after that am reading a strongly recommended book, I decided to roll my #bookspin result as the next in line, whether or not I actually get to it this month. It‘s unlikely, but I‘ll just keep adding to the list each time! My #doublespin is also underlined, but I won‘t be putting it on the next-up list.

Granted the biography‘s are kinda short, but this book is important one for children to know what went on back then!

I really enjoyed this contemporary MG novel about a boy running a family greenhouse with his older brother after the death of their parents. His teacher assigns a project in which he must relate events & tasks in his own life to the 12 labors of Hercules. There‘s a lot of mythological information and an amazing setting on Cape Cod alongside a story of the importance of found family (including pets) and community connection.

3 ⭐ This book is about a fire hydrant who thinks they‘re worth more than being peed on every day. They consider themselves a toilet. The illustrations are what really makes this book move. The words are a fire hydrant feeling like they‘re different and they deserve more than to be a dog toilet, but the illustration show that this fire hydrant is going to be used for what it was designed for in just a few more pages.
