History buff and reactor Amos discovers the people who are missing or barely acknowledged from our history. In this story told through letters he writes to a trans civil war soldier, he recounts his efforts to change this. I enjoyed this middle grade read, and learned some stuff along the way, which is a great bonus. #LGBTQIA #History #CivilWar

Kenyazero Used for #GottaCatchEmAll Tauros: a leader character @PuddleJumper ; and #OwlHouseReadathon Kikimora: a power-hungry character. 3d

Wounded: A Novel | Percival Everett

John is a black man who trains horses on his ranch outside of a small town in Wyoming. When a gay man is murdered in the town the event vibrates through out his life in unexpected ways including bringing the son of his college roommate to stay. Percival Everett is in a league of his own and my only complaint about this book is that it is so short. The ending was so abrupt, I wanted another 150 pages.

Great queer YA retelling of Northanger Abbey! I loved Catherine‘s obsession with gothic novels updated to Cade‘s obsession with horror movies. The gay fears and love story felt very real, especially for teenagers in rural Texas.

Unfortunately, when I showed this to my gay classic-lit-and-horse-loving friend, he informed me that this artist is just as bad as all the others at drawing horses 😂

Completely lovely YA adaptation of Northanger Abbey with perfect gothic parallels and a sweetly real young love story for our two leading lads. I don't always love a graphic novel but this one captured me, and while it deals with more serious themes than the original (homophobia, racism, poverty, illness), it still feels like an A+ successor to Austen's novel. I have a feeling I'll be coming back to this one. #PemberLittens #JaneAustenThenAndNow

“Wounded” is a compelling read. It‘s a quick one too. There‘s a lot happening in 207 pages.

Northanger May is behind us and Northanger Adaptation June is ahead! I'm going for a re-watch of the 2007 film (they get it so right!), a handful of YA versions (the perfect genre for this one, can't deny it) and a book centered on the flowers and plants in Austen's work. Perfect timing as I get my own garden in gear, and who knows - maybe it'll help me learn to love a hyacinth??

Who else has some adaptations to explore this month?

Bookwormjillk I have Ghosted out from the library 3mo
Andrea313 @Bookwormjillk I'm looking forward to that one! 3mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig Perfect Plan! 3mo
peanutnine I've read Northranger before (it was great!) but I might check out Ghosted. There don't seem to be a ton of adaptations of this one 3mo

Had a blast today at Queers and Quills book convention!
There is always stress about how organized things are and how good the attendees will be. But not only did a bunch of attendees give volunteers presents (goodie bags, bookmarks, candy), but everyone was just lovely 😍.
Not a big ❤️ reader I didn't know most of the authors but everyone today was so nice, and we were packed! I am excited to help out again next year!! What a success.

ChaoticMissAdventures Tagging a Marley book she was the brain child of the event and I controlled her signing line most of the day, her and her husband are gorgeous and lovely 😍 3mo

This is such an interesting book. It starts out as memoir of Yale law professor Kenji Yoshino‘s younger days as he processed his “otherness” in American society as a Japanese-American, gay man. He talks about covering—attempting to act as white and straight as possible—then goes into related legal issues. There‘s a gentleness to his writing and some of the legalities are more important than ever in our current moment.

Straight men, are you okay? Straight white men, are you specifically okay? This entire book is an ode to the idea that it‘s about damned time we abandon our insistence on a binary view of life, love, sexuality, attraction, and gender.
👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

GingerAntics This book is also very clear on how the toxic masculinity that harms women actually turns on itself in hazing rituals, ultimately using that violence and domination over weaker members of the group to reiterate and perpetuate itself. There is nothing healthy going on here. No, men are not okay. Straight men are not okay. Straight white men are absolutely not okay. Sadly, they are the ones most fervently fighting to keep things this way. 6mo

Seriously, I feel like this entire book is an argument for abandoning the binary views we have of gender, sexuality, attraction, and life.
